Negative Review

Here's a different take on HIPT than I've been hearing from a lot of critics (and CMers).

It's from my school newspaper at the U. of Pittsburgh, so it's just some kid reviewing it, but he sounds like he was a big OLP fan back in the Mike days:

m

He basically argues that Gravity was ...

Ed is actually a girl. Her father sorta abandoned her and she didn't know her name, so she named herself Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV.

If that won't make people wanna watch the show, I don't know what would.

It's not so much that they've lost intensity. In fact, just listen to some of Raine's singing on HIPT - I haven't heard anything quite that passionate since the Live DVD, and rarely before that.

And some songs like Al Genina, they're pretty damn heartbreaking. As much emotion in the meanings as ...

I had to go with Apology.

Every track on the album has it's merits, but the chorus in Apology is just plain haunting.

I finally got the freakin' album!!!

OK... so I downloaded it from the HUB, but UPS says it'll be here tomorrow.

I just couldn't wait, so I stole it.

I've got to say I'm pretty pleased.

Apology is amazing. Thought I'm not quite digging Love & Trust like everyone else... but I've only ...

Oh damn.. I don't know. I just got lawn seats cause they were $10.

I don't know anything about the pit. But if you find a way in, please let me know - I could give a shit about most of the other bands, but (obviously) I'd love to see OLP from the pit.

... or Starlake's pathetic attempt at ...

YOu know who else is teh sexy?

The Pillows.

They basically make up the entire soundtrack to another [adult swim] anime, FLCL. I bought both soundtracks for the show - and it is some freakin' amazingly catching Japanese rock.

Highly recommended.

You've got to give the series some time, get to know the characters, you'll come to love them as I have. Even Ed. She'll grow on ya.

In Repair Live

I figured the Live DVD wasn't getting much love right despite being officially released in the US yesterday, so I'm going to post something on it (plus my preorder isn't in yet so I can't discuss HIPT):

Isn't In Repair on the Live DVD one of the most amazing live songs in the history of the human ...

Oh wow.. you've got to watch it. I know some people are a little hesitant about anime, but Cowboy Bebop is one series everyone has to watch.

Pittsburgh X-Fest 9/9/05

Hey, anyone else going to X-Fest in Pittsburgh?

I'd love to meet some other people from the CM - I've been hiding under a rock for a few years so I haven't met anyone since probably 2001.

Looks like Where Are You is getting no love.

They should've kept it sounding like the Holiday greeting version in 2003.

I just listened to If You Believe and All My Friends (it's been months).

It took my breath away. Seriously, I just stopped breathing.

Back after the first single was released we were are thinking that this album would be terrible (I'm glad to admit that we were wrong ).

I'm also really really really happy with myself for not downloading it early. It was so great to just sit in my room with my eyes closed and my headphones in, listening to an actual cd, and getting the whole experience.

That's what I'm hoping to do... but my damn preorder hasn't even shipped ...
