Feeling nostalgic

I just felt so damn nostalgic
I was watching bits of the Gonna Meet a Rockstar espisode from 2000 on Much Music, which I was downloading over the hub, which was back from the Summersault tour, that was taking place back when I started my Our Lady Peace fan site, called OLP Online (used to be www.olponline.com)...

Seeing MT giving an interview as well as watching their old videos, like Thief, Starseed, One Man Army, all these things made me so nostalgic... OLP used to mean SO much to me, they used to be one of my all time favorite bands, and they represented such an important part of my early teens... Since almost no one knew the band in Brazil back then, they used to be my little secret...

I felt like crying watching the Thief video... such an amazing tune, and back then OLP was at their best (in my opinion, of course)... so I just felt like sharing this....

Not wanting to start a "i dont like olp nowadays thread", I actually like the new band, eventhough I don't think they are as good as they used to... anyway...

But I can say I grew with the band, I love OLP, and I love the new stuff, it just took some time.

I totally agree with you all, the early teen years for me was when the Happiness album was out, and everytime I listen to it it takes me back to those great carefree days, it's understandable but the more I realize OLP hasn't changed as much those days have.

I know how you feel. But they are still an awsome band.

What i miss is raine's movement when he performs. Some may think he looks retarded but hewas so into it with the "robotish" movement with his hands which was so cool.( Does anyone know wat i'm talking about?) Now he's more calm and reserved.

i'd say they've both changed quite a bit.

I'm listening to Queens of The Stone Age right now, that i definatly wouldn't have back them. OLP works with Bob rock now, They definatly wouldn't have back then. Happiness and Gravity/HIPT are basically polar opposites in every concievable way, from lyrics, to driving ideas, to ambitions.

It's not so much that they've lost intensity. In fact, just listen to some of Raine's singing on HIPT - I haven't heard anything quite that passionate since the Live DVD, and rarely before that.

And some songs like Al Genina, they're pretty damn heartbreaking. As much emotion in the meanings as there is in Theif or something like that.

But I totally agree that there seems to be less... maybe passion? I think most of us know what I'm talking about when I try to explain this intangible feeling that came along with OLP in the late 90's, so I won't bother trying to put it in words.

But yeah... I sense the loss of some of that etheral feeling, but as far as musicianship goes, HIPT is amazing. Miles and miles above Gravity at least.

Agreed. Makes me really want to them seeing making music for a long time from now. I can't wait to see what stuff they put out in the future.

i would say maybe it could just be chalked up to that Youthful Fire Burning, that's gone, it's happens to most bands

It's weird when I think about when I was younger. I was obsessed, seriously. Our Lady Peace wasn't just my favourite band, it was like a facet of my personality. I had, do still have really, such an emotional connection to them, something i've only ever felt with one other band.

I've grown out of that stage, its like when friends grow apart but occaisonaly see each other and make pleasantries. I'd love to be back there but I don't think its possible.

If I think about it though, the music got me through difficult periods of my life, and so I do owe OLP alot just for making the music they do. I'm sad its different now but everything is always changing, its a fact of life.

I have been the same way, but not really until my midteens. I thought the same way, but then I realized that have changed 100 times over since I was 16 in just five years. And they have changed so much. How can we expect to be at the same place? I still love them but I don't feel the same about ANY music as I did back then anymore.

i guess that their passion is lessened over time, and that they are getting older, and no one can stop that

I don't think it's a matter of the band's passion dying, because that is certainly still there. It's a matter of everyone growing... not up... because it's very possible to still be very passionate about favorite bands when older (and some of us on this board are living proof of that )... maybe just a matter of interests changing, and other things becoming more important than music? I dunno.
