What's with all the 'should'-ing? I understand that everyone has their own preferences as to what OLP should be headed, me included. As far as I'm concerned the only thing OLP or any band for that matter 'should' do would be completely earnest about making what they think is fgood music. So far, and especially with this new album it seems like they've been doing just that. If they moved away from the aspects I dislike about the 'new' OLP I'd be thrilled but if they sacrificed even the smallest bit of earnesty, I wouldn't respect them as much as I do now.

Oh, that would be so cool.

I know, I have my own preferences as to where I'd want OLP to be heading. I'm just saying I'd much rather prefer that they keep on putting all their energy into making what they think is good music.

My Rankings:

Clumsy - this cd just has this feeling to it that I cannot describe. It was my introduction to OLP, and I just love every song on it. It's also the album that took me the longest to appreciate every song on it. But it just has such an original, and creative side to it. 4am is my favorite song by OLP, and is probably in my top 5 songs of all time. The power of this song is unbelievable. Chills rush down my spine evertime i hear the opening chord. The songs all have different structures to it, and i love that. Raine's voice is just so awesome and unique on this cd, i love it.

Happiness - both this and SM are kinda tied for second. I suppose Happiness might take the lead just because of IAH and Thief. I like how this cd has such an airy feeling about it. I don't even know what the word 'airy' is supposed to mean, but that's just a word that comes to mind. It's polished and clean, and everything is layered so nicely. The lyrics are probably the strongest on the cd.

SM - this is THE cd that i listen to on long drives and whatnot. It's great to just sit down and think to. The overall feeling of this cd is just fantastic. It flows so nicely. In Repair is easily one of my top 5 songs by OLP. It's got a lot of catchy songs on it, but i wouldn't call them poppy, which is good.

Naveed - this is probably tied with HIPT, as of now. This cd is very good, and also took me a while to appreciate. It's got a nice raw feeling to it and it's got loads of originality. Birdman and Starseed are songs that you really can't hear anywhere else. It was a perfect debut, in my mind. Naveed also might be in my top 5 songs.

HIPT - I'm very glad to say that this cd can stand with their first four. It does have it's weak songs, but even the weak songs have some part in them that's fun to listen to or impressive. The new sound isn't too simplistic and is even somewhat creative. Songs like Apology and Al Genina prove that OLP still have the ability to create unique and impressive songs. The lyrics are still a little dissapointing. There is nothing too deep or inspiring on this cd like Happiness and SM had. However, the lyrics fit their new sound nicely. I really do enjoy this cd.

Gravity - No surprise here. In my mind, there's is no question that this is OLP's worst cd when being judged by creativity, lyrically, and originality. Every song is just so simple and I'll still occasionally find myself mixing up songs like Sorry, Made of Steel, and Do You Like It. There's just nothing impressive here when compared to the other cds. BBTS is good and I suppose All For You is fun to listen to. Not Enough has been done so many times, there's just nothing special about it. Sell My Soul is enjoyable, i find it's one of the few songs on the cd that contain something unique about them. I would not place any of the songs on this cd in my top 10 songs by OLP.

And there you go.

the only difference would be subliminal recordings of raine pooping in a can played backwards throughout each song on naveed.

"There's something different about this leak...but i can't quite put my finger on it....

Leak.

...Leak?

Oh goodness I need to piss."

yes! DOMINATION OF THE BOWELS!!!

just think in a more vague way. direct your attention to the regions that excrete bodily wastes, as a whole. you know? down there, that general area.

then it's funnier.

Which old guy is this?

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

Well I'm lost on the last few posts, but I thought I'd post in this topic again since I did before. I'm an impatient bastard so I downloaded the rest of the album and I have to say I am well more than pleasantly surprised. I literally almost fell over in my chair when I heard Apology the first time, I have to give them credit I really didn't think they had music that atmospheric and moody in them. I absolutely love that song. It's nice to hear a little swing in the percussion, and to see Jeremy playing to his strengths. That song really blew me away, but Love and Trust is quite good too, as well as Boy. Even Picture, though the poetry Raine dug up from when he was 13 or whatever exactly it is makes me want to gag, it really is a nice song. And Walking In Circles I heard live and didn't care for much but the recorded version is outstanding I find my head uncontrollably bobbing along every time it plays... I will have to take some sort of drastic action if there are no plans for it to be a single in the US....and I THINK, although I won't be convinced until I hear the song another 800 times or so, I think I even heard not one or two but three good drum fills by Jeremy at the end of the song which continues to reassure my belief that he still has working arms. I think the best way to describe this album is surprisingly pleasant, and I'm very happy to say that. I ripped on them plenty before, and I still stand by what I said about a lot of the over produced garbage that turned into a few songs on here such as Where Are You, which still stands as easily my least favorite song by them, ever. But there is a lot to enjoy here, and it's definetly better than Gravity. I think it can at least stand with the other albums, and shows a lot of promise for the future of OLP. Good work guys :) .
