Is HIPT their best album?

Post by Clumsythief »

Well, I just listened to the album and I must say that I really like it! It may be their best album ever. How well do you guys think the album will do in the charts? I think that the album will be in the top 15 in the Billboard. As for the sales, I think that the album will sell very well in Canada (500 000?) and will be as good as Gravity in the US, but who cares.

Here's my top 6 (for now):

1. Clumsy
2. HIPT
3. Naveed
4. Happiness
5. SM
6. Gravity

What's yours?

I haven't heard HIPT yet, but my ranking of their first 5 cds is:

1) Happiness
2) SM
3) Clumsy
4) Naveed
5) Gravity

I'm very very curious to see where HIPT fits into all that...

so far, i doin't think it's OLP's best album. HITP is missing something...
comparing to Gravity, wich is my favourite out of the 6- it doesn't have a catchy hit like "innocent", misses a powerful song such as "all for you" and especially some amazing guitar solo like in "not enough" or "bring back the sun"...
my point is that i find the songs in HITP pretty much repeating themselves... it's kinda hard for me to explain, their structure is kinda similar...and steve's guitar really disappointed me. am i the only who think so?

anyway, it has it's good tunes. this is how i rate the albums:

1. Gravity
2. SM + happiness (just can't decide, they're both so DAMN good)
3. HITP
4. Naveed
5. Clumsy

I think Healthy In Paranoid Times is their best effort and has their most powerful, uplifting and inspirational songs to date. This is how it stacks up for me:

-Healthy In Paranoid Times
-Spiritual Machines
-Happiness...Is Not a Fish You Can Catch
-Clumsy
-Gravity
-Naveed (I didn't start with this CD and it's so wack to me...very different OLP)

well me hasnt heard the whole album yetty bt me thinks its the worst album from wot ive heard not anthink away from Healthy in parinoid times but it would always be hard to match or beat the experimentle gravitings of the other albums me thinks that this album is just same as the mainstream gravity. but since i havent heard it all yet ill wait till i buy it untill me includes it in the list so my others rate at
Spiritual Machines
Happiness is not a fish that you can catch
Naveed
Clumsy
Gravity

I haven't heard HIPT all the way through so I won't pass judgement quite yet, but here's how the rest stack up:

1. Spiritual Machines
2. Clumsy
3. Happiness...
4. Naveed
5. Gravity

The first four are all amazing albums so it's not like I really like one over another all that much. As for Gravity, don't even get me started...

P.S. In my opinion, In repair is the best song and music video ever made.

1. Happiness
2. HIPT

4. Spiritual Machines
5. Naveed
6. Gravity

I think HIPT is absolutely brilliant, there's so much variety on it, slow songs, grungy songs, love songs, upbeat songs, it's just got so much variety and colour to it....absolutely amazing, the only problem is the bar is now set higher for hopefully future albums.

I wouldn't say it's their best album but it is a good album.

I had the OLP albums ranked like:

1. Clumsy
2a) Spiritual Machines
2b) Naveed
4) Happiness.......
5) Gravity

The first four OLP albums are way above number five in my mind. I don't know where i'd slot HIPT, but I'd say it would be right in that Spiritual Machines/Naveed tier. It's a good album no doubt , but it doesn't touch Clumsy for me.

I know I'm going to take flak for having Happiness... so low, but for some reason that album hasn't quite done it for me.

Well, I'm not gonna make a complete opinion until it comes out, but I will say that I've never been completely satisfied with any of the OLP CDs. For me, they're a band who could put out a Greatest Hits CD second to none, but their CDs aren't amazing or anything. They have some amazing songs, but there's always a few songs that I do not like and it brings the CD doen for me.

Clumsy, for example, is a great CD but it has a few songs like Shaking and Let You Down that I don't like at all.

From what I've heard from Healthy in Paranoid Times, there isn't going to be a song that I don't like.

Then again, I'm like one of the few hardcore fans who actually likes Where Are You

But this is just me and just my opinion. Please don't trash me for saying what I've said, because OLP is my favorite band and I love them, and it's just my opinion.

I'd rank the 5 CDs so far in this order:

1. Spiritual Machines (Great songs, most complete album)
2. Gravity (I know you all hate this CD, but Innocent, SOT, AFY and BBTS are 4 of my favorite songs. Second most complete album.)
3. Clumsy (SD, Clumsy, 4AM, BDR, AF and Carnival are great, but the 2nd half of the CD starts to go downhill.)
4. Happiness... (Potato Girl and Thief are my two favorite OLP songs - they're simply amazing. I used to like songs like Annie and I don't anymore, so it's dropped to #4)
5. Naveed (Naveed, Starseed and The Birdman are sick, but I don't like this CD at all.)

For me, HIPT just has too many bland or just bad songs that I skip for it to be one of my personal favourites. There's only about three songs on there that I -really- like (Angels, Love & Trust, Al Genina), and others that are ok (Apology, Circles), but to me the rest is just... bleh.

Gravity doesn't even rank for me. I can't listen to that album, I hate it so much...

Mine go:

1. Clumsy/Happiness (tie)
2. Naveed
3. SM
4. HIPT
....
....
....
352634767th. Gravity

Of course there are one or two songs on each of the 'Good 4' albums (as I call them) that I'm not crazy about, but there's never been a song that I've truly hated or been annoyed with until Gravity and HIPT. I think they're on the right track now, though, and if they can pull off some more stuff like Angels and Al Genina...

I used to have no faith at all in the band, but now I think they're going somewhere good.

I think the reason why we all have contrasting feelings about the rankings of the CDs is because we all love OLP for completely different reasons. Some of us listen to OLP because we are looking for deep and meaningful lyrics, and those people were disappointed by Gravity (myself included). At the same time, there are other fans who loved Gravity because, although it is shallow lyric-wise, it is a solid rock album. There are still others who listen to OLP because they are looking for that unique sound that they heard in Clumsy.

Call me a "noob" or whatever you computer geeks want, but although we are all similar in that we are huge OLP fans, we are actually quite different because we expect different things from them, and because of that they are pulled in three directions at once while writing a new CD. Hmm...i wonder why it took 3 years to do this one?

For me it's about relating to the music through their deep lyrics and with my personal situations. This CD couldn't have come in a better time for me because of the things that have been happening this Summer. There's been good, there's been bad and this new CD has a lot of songs that I can relate to...especially Picture in a way I can't beleve. Will the Future Blame Us? And Wipe that Smile off Your Face also hold strong meanings for me. It's just amazing to see them still be able to do it. It feels like they know my pain, and the songs are like a release. They wanna share in my pain, they wanna help heal it, and they just...understand really. That's why this CD is the best. I can relate to it the most, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Well worth wait.
