Is this the last OLP record?

Nobody knows who Matt Good is down here. Almost everybody has never even heard of him.

This country has only room for one band named after the lead singer

...and that would be Huey Lewis and the News, next question.

Hey, that's absolutely true. But for every band you mention there are about a thousand others much more interested in cracking that piggy bank below the 49th, and fair play to them! For the record, Matt Good is not exactly what you'd call a hit factory (even in Canada) and Sloan (bless them) have seen their sales decline over the years as well. Even the Hip aren't playing to capacity houses across Canada anymore.

But really now be honest, what's the point of "being big in Canada" when you can rack up royalties with producer credits on acts like Gwen Stefani?

1. Matt Good has had more singles in Canada than OLP, not to mention the highest selling indy record in Canadian history.

2. Sloan are basically on a indy lable and have been for the past decade. Their sales are pretty phenomenal considering what they have to work with.

3. The Hip are constantly playing multiple shows at arenas around Canada. I don't know where you saw them play to a half filled arena, but feel free to fill me in on that one.

4. You don't need to be in an amazing band that has made it big in the US to become a mainstream producer. Raine has proven that. I don't think OLP will ever make it big in the USA, and Raine as a producer for bands that have the ability to make it big is as close as he's going to get.

Avril Lavigne?

Is she a part of a band or a solo artist?

I guess we really need to define whats "making it big" in the states... if you consider Creed, Nirvana, Good Charlotte big, then OLP will never be that big in USA because their sound isn't standard enough.

However, having seen OLP 6 times (all in NC or SC) over 5 years where 3 of the shows were sold out well in advance in smaller venues, and 3 other times where they Co-Headlined (played next to last or second to last all three times) stadium-sized concerts, I would say they have made it big in the U.S. Anyone who listens to rock most of the time knows them...

However, Matt Good is a different story... I hate mentioning him and then having to explain the difference between the words "Dave" and "Good"

Matt has more talent in his pinky. It's true.

Anyways, about them selling out shows in the states. I think that with as large of a market as there is in the USA, it isn't that difficult to sell out a show, especially with enough promotion. Even in a city of 500,000 people (not including the population that can easily drive in 2 hours) even if 0.5% of the population shows up, that's 2500 people. I think saying that a sold out venue is "making it" is just incorrect.

HEY, now. You might not appreciate that song, but some of us do and love M5. :P Remember you're on a public forum where people have varying musical tastes.

That's... not strong enough. Matt Good basically doesn't exist in the US. If it weren't for being an OLP fan online, I wouldn't have ever heard his name.

And, now that I've read more of the thread, I see other's have said basically the same thing. But I took the time to quote and type that, so it's staying!!!!

Maybe it's the fact that his music puts people to sleep....hmm I'm going to get flames. I like his lyrics, they're brilliant...the music just isn't my thing.
