Is this the last OLP record?
Is this the last OLP record?
With Vampires, the OLP recording contract with Sony comes to an end.
The big question for me, with band members now having families to take care of and mega-successful producing projects, will OLP hang it up after this record?
I think this is going to be their "money record" and may be the last we see of them. Do you think the band will or would acknowledge this and give the fans a chance to say farewell?

Arguments? This is the place for mindless speculation, no?
It seems to me there are a few classic indicators here. Gosh, the guys are 30 now. How long can they keep telling fans that we're all innocent and that it's ok to be sad?
I like 4/6 albums they've put out and the new material is smokin', but given their track record in the studio and the distractions they face as their lifestyle changes doesn't it stand to reason that their raison d'etre for rocking out is gone?
Is it better to burn out than fade away?
Is this the end? (My only friend, the end)
Come on, we should be able to talk about this.

we don't even know conclusively if the contract is even done yet. i have no problem discussing it, everything that goes up must come down. it's a fact of life. it's unfair to expect them to be the next rolling stones or something but i also don't think their star is going to fall or dim for at least another album (maybe two?) after Vampires.
mehness i sure hope its not the last album because i want to see the different sounds they come up with.

I'm torn
On one hand, I can't imagine not waiting for a new OLP record or waiting to see them play live, but on the other hand, I dont know how much they have left in them.
I think they can go on...look at The Tragically Hip.....they are still going and pretty strong....and on the same path i think....they are making decent music now on their 10th record, but their older stuff was much better
same thing with OLP now...their first 4 records were amazing, gravity was pretty good, i liked it, and now with vampires, im not sure....lyrically vampires is very weak and cliche in my opinion and it is not as hard and guitar driven as i expected with steve as well as the rehearsal clips and stuff....seems they went with the softer stuff, which is kinda disappointing to me....but its not bad stuff, and its not amazing either

Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?

OLP changes their style in every record, how can they burn out that quickly if there's such a change in each record. I'm betting that your placing your research squarely on Gravity (which was their money record) and not thinking of how they have progressed. I personally think OLP will keep going like the Tragically Hip did, and stay around for awhile.[/quote]

the dvd IS the live album, but with video and extra features.
and yeah a lot of people like me would be crushed to see them go after vampires, because it just wasn't too long since we first caught on to them. you know, you just wish you were around to be a fan of them longer, and to see them at their pillar years. but they'll never go back to that kind of thing, and you've already missed it. so if you're one of the late ones, all that's left for you is to love what they've already done, and follow them through wherever else they take their sound in the coming years, before it all shudders down to a halt.
