without a fifth piece we'll either be missing a huge chunk of good songs from the setlist or inferior versions of them

exaclty. Without Jamie or Mike E. Some a good deal of songs arent going to be up to par.
Personally, I think the decision to go back to a 4 piece band was a mistake

Again showing my ignorance, but could you give me an example or two of Jamie's part in songs?

Go pick up Spiritual Machines, or Happiness. He does all the keyboards, the backing guitars, and some of the ambient noises. He even did the string arrangements on Somewhere out there.

ambient sounds in happiness for one. listen to the "bling" sounds in mike's solo in blister
Listen to the chimes in In Repair and Potato girl
One of the most obvious parts is the PIANO in If you Believe
etc............you need to figure some of this stuff on your own

I wouldn't call it a mistake. They're up to something and the result could very well be a positive one.
And if it's not there is always the option of adding a fifth member again.
thanks

not A band, school band
I think my combo's breaking up soon
oh well, good times
^just continue listening, and you'll know. If you don't have the hub yet get it and use it. But 3 albums of material should be enough. Pay attention to the background, things that cleary can't be done by one guitar.
