Our Lady Peaces future
Mike was a huge part of the band, and to say that his only influence was through his guitar, and online presence is wrong. It was basically his and Raine's band. I'm willing to bet the simple era would have happened a lot earlier if not for Mike. SM probably would never have happened since the band was planning to take time off after Happiness, if it had not been for Mike.
Even then, Raine seemed to be edging towards todays sound before SM came out. If you remember, Mike was disappointed with the simplicity of some of the hooks on SM because Raine thought they were good enough (namely Right Behind You). And although a lot of us think it's a profoundly deep album and all that jazz, if you really listen, there are a lot of very simple lyrics, and you can see the progression into Gravity, (sans In Repair, TWF, and the verses to RBY).
Basically Mike balanced things out. He wanted something more complex, Raine wants simple, and eventually that relationship got strained. I think there was monetary issues behind it since Happiness basically flopped after Clumsy's success, and Raine may have felt that their sound isn't mainstream enough in the states.
Of course, this is all speculation. Just pieced together from interviews and the other bits and pieces that have happened since Happiness. It's merely what I think happened in their relationship, and I believe that a lot of what I just said (and have been saying for 2 years now) is probably what happened. Of course we will probably never know, and rightfully so.

I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

You made a good point about Raine and Mike's relationship. I have heard people that know the band say that even a year before Mike left they could just sense something, and that his leaving didn't surprise them.
You can really see it though. Mike and Raine seem like polar opposites. Only time until the stick breaks.

If you don't like it, don't read it. the title is "Our Lady Peace's Future" so it should give you some sort of insight as to what the thread is about. Settle down.

I was referring to Matt actually... sorry, should have made that clearer.

Update from someone...
That was posted on the hub. "Teenage Punching Bag" If that's true ... wow.
Cause I'm just a teenage punching bag baby.
Yeah I'm just a teenage punching bag baby.
Listen to Iron Maiden baby--with me
Ooohoo Hoo Hooooooo
Oh yeah! Punching bag!
She doesn't know what she's missing!

Raine grüsst die deutschen Fans!
OLP haben uns deutsche Fans nicht vergessen!
Exklusiv für die deutsche OLP Community hat Raine ein paar Worte über das neue Album, die Europatour und mehr:
"...let me give you an update on what's happening with the band. we have just finished preproduction in Los Angeles for our new record. we start recording in Maui,Hawaii on tues with Bob Rock.
there are 28 songs in total to choose from. this will be by far the best and most focused OLP album ever. the band has never been more excited.
i am incredibly inspired by the world events that we've lived through and continue to live through. i have a little anger and a lot of frustration that is coming out in my lyrics. some songtitles : wipe that smile off your face. Not afraid, walking in circles, teenage punching bag.
we will also be back in europe touring next summer. please give all our german fans our love and thanks for the support they showed over the last year..."
Wir wünschen der Band alles Gute und sind uns sicher, dass sie die richtigen Songs für das neue Album auswählen werden! OLP rocks...

Like I said earlier, it doesn't really matter if we've had the "same" discussion before, because people's opinions and perspectives change. Besides, we're looking at this from a new angle. It's no longer "STEVE!!!!" vs "MIKE!!!1", it's about the different dynamics of the band before and after the change, and the different possibilites for their future.
And, as Jimmy boy said, it's not like you have to read it. It's not an angry fight or anything, and no one's getting hurt.
