Re: Spiritual Machines II Discussion

Great analysis Matt, I second everything you said. Duncan and Jason are incredibly dynamic together, it's completely reinvigorated the band's sound, imo. I love the layers of guitar Steve has put down here, showcasing his experimentation with melody. On repeated listens 19 Days continues to groove ...

Re: Spiritual Machines II Discussion

I got the NFT, and seems I'm the first to fully digest the album and post about it! Cool! Here's my quick thoughts, will do a longer write-up later...

Overall, amazing! I have heard OLP make versions of this kind of music before and it always seemed a bit restrained, but they're really going for it ...

Re: Future Disease

I think it sounds fantastic.

Agree. I didn't really touch on this, but I like the mixing and mastering a lot as well. There's a lot going on in this track, but if you try to listen to each layer individually you can really hear each performance occupying it's own space in the mix. I'm getting ...

Re: Future Disease

It seems to be getting some bad feedback, but I dig it. The drums and bass are locked in to a cool, driving beat, and I love the way the dual guitar tracks play off each other. It might be Steve's most proficient guitar work on record with OLP to date.

Raine's performance is obviously not a ...

Re: I'm just gonna say it HIPT was one of their stronger alb

Regarding Raine's vocals on HIPT, I think Bob Rock's influence on the vocals was as much to do with his recording and production of the album material itself as the change in style. Yes Raine's voice and style were changing, but Rock was also trying to develop a fuller sound for the band, like he ...

Re: General OLP News

I suppose too with a fully functional studio in his basement that he's probably more likely to work on some Moon Sun stuff with Chantal...

I don't mean to put pressure on the guys or anything. My expectations really aren't that high. Still, I do believe at some point here as we all learn to adjust ...

Re: General OLP News

Rich has been working at this for a while. I feel like this project was more destined for release than anything else that has been filmed in the last decade. As for new material being released this year...wouldn't hold my breath.

Good info. I might even extend that beyond a decade, as the last ...

Re: General OLP News

Great news! Hi Trusty! We've had some awesome people capturing concerts over the years, but you know if Rich is involved with production that it's going to be something special. I really can't wait.

I also wonder if this is planned forward momentum by the band towards an album release this year ...

Summersault and Trusty...what year is it? Looks like the boys are ramping up for the summer, too bad all the shows are back east.

Re: Canadian Tour March 2018

Just got back home from Abbotsford, thought I'd offer a review of the final show on the tour.

While there was plenty of empty seats when Ellevator got on to open the show, the place eventually was packed for Matt Good.

I felt bad for Ellevator as few were paying attention and the music was ...

Re: Canadian Tour March 2018

I take back what I said earlier, as the setlists have become more varied and interesting. Also, love that we're getting A/L/S. Sad they seem to have dropped Naveed, much better closer than Starseed, imo.

Can't wait for Abbotsford! Anyone else going?

Re: Ranked: Healthy In Paranoid Times

Pretty easily A/L/S for me. I remember when we had those short clips of a few songs before the album eventually leaked out, and just the chorus of A/L/S had me sold. I like Will the Future Blame Us here, but I prefer the live version from Massey. Picture and Walking in Circles should get more love.

Re: Canadian Tour March 2018

Boring. I understand why they play the songs that they do, but by this point they should know that the majority of their limited fans are hardcore, and it won't hurt to get to some deeper cuts. EDIT: I love seeing Mafia though, let's hope that continues. It's especially disappointing not to see more ...

The guitar work on Paper Moon simply elevates this beyond anything else on the album, imo. Nice to see Refuge get some love, it's a great track and Duncan and Jeremy really shine.

Re: Ranked: Naveed

Probably a common answer: Naveed. Denied is a really really close second, probably followed by Starseed and The Birdman. I also think I'm one of the few OLP fans who never really latched on to Hope. Very good song, but it just never clicked with me like the rest of the album.

I never really liked ...

Re: Ranked: Clumsy

Probably a fairly common answer for this album: 4am, hands down. Still my favorite song. I bought the hand written lyrics from Pledge. Growing up in North Carolina, it was the second OLP song I ever heard (behind Superman's Dead) and it changed my musical life I love the whole album, would sit and ...
