Yep. From what I can gather, they wrote quite a bit for Clumsy too (but still probably not anywhere near HIPT). Naveed, Happiness, SM, and Gravity were all described as pretty focused efforts, without a ton of leftovers from the studio.MindsOnLoan wrote:I just don't get how people expected something else. Curious what Curve was like. We know a lot about those sessions, but it's hard to tell from all the videos what might've been made into an actual song and what were just ideas that didn't pan out.faninor wrote:Yep. I think there are probably quite a few full songs. A few of the clips are little bits and pieces that might just be a jam or idea that didn't go anywhere. But a bunch seemed to be recorded as tracked out songs and, at least to me, this suggests a more fully-formed song. At the minimum, Body Into Soul, Tales from a Grocery List, I Hear You Calling, Comes and Goes, Warnings, the one with the lyric "who's gonna be there when it all comes crashing down" almost certainly are actual songs with proper demos. Then there's Moth and A Day without the Sun, they were definitely proper songs but didn't have any posted clips that sounded as polished as the others... they probably exist unless the band decided they weren't good songs before they finished a recording.

Body into soul? Is there a clip of that?
I feel jilted by curve. They left off everything I was really gunning for. After I'm done listening to it I always feel like I was just getting warmed up. Ya know?

Several clips. This is one of the songs Raine mentioned in the studio diary as possibly being revisited for the next album, rather than being released through the vault.

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Trying to see if I could find old editions of Transparent Humans from the 90s, stumbled upon on old fan site and have been reading about old sessions. 1994 interview state they wrote 17 or 18 songs for demos, which I'd imagine included Naveed songs, some of the demos we already know about, some stuff that wasn't recorded and some stuff the band wouldn't want to see the light of day lol. Then an additional ten songs were written early on in Naveed's sessions.
http://members.tripod.com/~transparent_ ... cles94.htm
There's about 60-70 cassette tapes from the Clumsy sessions, as they'd leave it running all day just to pick up on any ideas. There's also plenty of demos and alternate versions of songs because they'd experiment so much until they went with the album version. Raine also talked about how happy they were with Trapeze but it just didn't fit, but they plan on releasing it and a few other songs that didn't make the album (lol). Also according to the Wiki page, it said they did about 20 songs and attributed this to Trasparent Humans, which can't be verified but that number sounds familiar.

There's some Happiness stuff too I might read in a little bit. I'm snowed in today and cabin fever is setting in lol

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
I know curve had a whole lot that didn't make the album based off our all our little sneak peaks the band release. When I complained about the HIPT content, it was namely because I imagined the band probably had about 45 tracks between all the Non-HIPT album b-sides. I guess I was just expecting them to stagger stuff around a bit more so we get a broader range of style.
I shouldn't complain because FREE, also, even the worst of OLP is tolerable, but hell, this is a place to talk and voice our opinions. I'm not saying you're all shit heads for being excited about the HIPT songs. I'm just saying that if we're going Steve heavy, I really would love to get more Curve B-Sides. For me, I'd prefer that more than even Naveed stuff. Curve just sounds closer to the OLP I loved. HIPT has some jems, and i think the album would have been much stronger if many of these B's replaced some of the other songs that made the CD, but when your knee jerk image of OLP is a song like Annie or Car Crash, a song like Vampires just doesn't quench the olp thirst.

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Personally i want to hear Warnings and I Hear you calling from Curve sessions...especially the first one (i'm totally in love with the demo)...but i'm also happy to see song from Healthy...for example i liked a lot "Hurt Yourself" and "Not Afraid"...i'm also curious to see if the "dark songs" that were scrapped from HiPT will be on The Vault...i'm skeptical because Duncan told some time ago that they won't see the light of the day...as for Vampires well it's a nice song but i think that there are a lot of better songs...also in the true HiPT (for example Picture, A/L/S, Al genina and many more)....however let's see the good side about this release...people will stop asking Vampires and maybe will asking Trapeze...i'd like to hear also Yourself from Happiness...there are a lot of songs that in some ways will be released...the negative thing? We need to wait!

I have no idea why they get so nervous with their chorus'. I mean, they changed WHERE ARE YOU's original chorus from amazing to what we have and then the amazing WOLF to what we have. They dumb down their amazing stuff and I feel like it always comes back to nerves.

You know what would be really cool (and I'm not expecting this to happen) is if they released a pre-Naveed demo.MindsOnLoan wrote:I just don't get how people expected something else. It's just math lol. If most of the vault is HIPT songs, then we're obviously getting mostly HIPT songs.

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
I don't think that's out of the question, since they've already used Blind Anniversary in one of the teaser clips. Also, I wasn't suggesting and I don't think MindsOnLoan was suggesting that anyone needs to shut up about the song choice and balance between "eras" in the Vault releases. Nobody wants to hear just the HIPT leftovers. I want the older stuff, I want the even newer stuff... really, it'd be nice if they release every last thing, even the stuff that might not be so great. I was only trying to provide some perspective, that there is simply a lot of material from the HIPT sessions compared to most their other albums. So, as they're picking tracks, HIPT will come up more frequently. Otherwise, they'll exhaust the old material early and have a long stream of HIPT songs left to release at the end of the Vault series. Also, a lot of the older material is on DAT or analog tape, and isn't as easily accessible as files on a hard drive. It sounded like Duncan has been digging through all that old stuff, but perhaps it's still a work in progress. If they want to track down their best version of Trapeze, that will probably take a lot more time than tracking down the best version of Not Afraid or Vampires.
That said, I do feel like they're probably due for picking another non-HIPT track or two very soon.

Yup, that's what I meant. It's just reasonable to expect more HIPT, which is fine with me because I enjoy the songs and it keeps the hype high for the especially sought after tracks like Trapeze.faninor wrote:I don't think that's out of the question, since they've already used Blind Anniversary in one of the teaser clips. Definitely would enjoy something pre-HIPT or Curve with the next one or two releases though.

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
I am really getting impressed with some of these unreleased tracks from the HIPT era. It's actually starting to change my view of HIPT as a whole. There is so much here that never made it onto the album likely due to the pressure from the label. I always thought of HIPT as a mellow album with one aggressive song (Wipe that Smile off your Face) but after hearing Vampires and the non-pop version of Not Afraid I can see now that this album was probably meant to be much more aggressive then what actually made it onto the disc. After all of these unreleased songs come out I would love to see OLP put out a "fantasy HIPT track-list" telling us what that album was supposed to sound like!
