The Decade (Our Lady Peace Greatest Hits Album)
i haven't seen any of the Massey stuff so i may still buy it yet. Plus i haven't bothered to listen to "better than here" but from the sounds of it, it's a decent song?
i dont know...
how is the album art?

odds are it was just some guy who was given the masters and told to add something to each track. This to me would seem to be the case if the changes mentioned so far are true, because they're rather minute, and the band doesn't need to be brought into the studio for them.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

Nah, there are additional vocal tracks in OMA and 4am... they needed Raine for that. Or at least they had to go back and get different takes of it.

It's basically the studio versions with a few sounds added, different guitar sounds, added vocal tracks, added percussion, the "Still Jack" intro to Life (which I can't belive was cut from SM), among other things. I think every track has something added. It's sort of fun to listen to it to try and hear the differences.

Hmm I was wrong, it's the same vocals at the beginning of OMA, I just never noticed one of the s sounds in the original recording so I thought it was different. It has different effects though. Most of the differences in it are the filters and whatnot that have been used to process the recordings of the different instruments, and the balance and panning of the various individual tracks. I'd hardly call it a new song though you're likely to notice different things listening to this mix than you did listening to the original mix (but afterward if you'll probably be able to find it in the original).

I think every song from the first 4 albums may have been remastered, just because they don't match up precisely with the original albums in terms of volume level and stuff, but that doesn't necessarily mean that every song has any real differences.

I just finished up going through the cd and dvd. The remastered tracks were a neat twist, something we didn't know for sure was coming. I also thought the new intro to Life was good. Better Than Here is pretty good. I think that they could leave it as it is, or polish it up a bit. Either way it's a pretty good tune, and I would be interested to hear an album recorded in this manner. I really liked the last of the song after the chorus finishes.
The DVD was weak at best. The transitions from the parts that were cut out are horrible, especially the encore at the end. Josh and I have been working on a DVD for Massey Hall based off the Rogers special, and I think it will be a better disc than the one with A Decade. The plus side is the picture quality is outstanding, and the audio mix was done really well too, except for the lack of crowd presence in the audio. Back to the negatives. There are all sorts of little flaws throughout.
At the end of the concert feature, it says that it was presented in Dolby Surround. Wrong. The DVD is presented in 48khz linear pcm audio (an uncompressed wave file). The navigation throughout the whole discography section is bad too, as in moving from button to button.
In the liner notes, there is no mention of alternate mixes. But it doesn't stop there. Drums on In Repair, those weren't recorded by Jeremy. Nope, that credit belong's to Pearl Jam's Matt Cameron. Joel pitched in on the songs from HIPT, no mention there. I would have thought the thank you section would have been a lengthy list of people and such, but it is a simple thanks to Sol Fox of all people.
I think this has been quickly tossed together as a final commitment to Sony BMG. I hope so at least. Is it worth the money to the long time or hardcore fan? Not really. To new fans, probably a good buy.
