We're not trying to get new memberships because the future of the site is 100% uncertain. As you know, we're trying to take the sign-up page down so that there will be no new members, free or paid.

What the real concern should be here is that the majority of this message board are going to go out and buy a cd that is full of songs they already have, except for two new songs which, I believe, were throwaways from an already underwhelming album.

So the cover leaked a couple days earlier than planned, it happens. But no one here threw a fit when links popped up everywhere so we could listen to the songs that haven't been released yet, and that's the real draw of that album, is it not? Face it, I understand you're upset about people seeing the picture early Kathy, but in the end, the corporations named Sony and Our Lady Peace are going to see their money. There was no premium on that picture that would make or break a corporation. It was a nice idea to put it up for the members, but it wasn't going to last very long, because, well, if all someone has to do is right click and hit "Save Picture As" it's going to end up on hard drives world wide.

That is all.

Sure, there are some CMers/Hubbers who are on free memberships, and all of these free memberships are meant to serve as a preview for what they can look forward to if they decide to become a paying member when their free membership ends.

If there were more to please these CMers/Hubbers then they would probably go for a paid membership, but if they remain dissatisfied then they probably won't.

I was once a paying member, and my opinion then would have been, sure, seeing the art work is nice, I certainly can't complain that .net members get to see it first, but overall it seems fairly unimportant since in a few weeks the artwork will be in stores all over the internet. I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over the artwork turning up on another website... and I certainly wouldn't think that the artwork being put an another website makes my membership any less valuable. Anyone who uses the Internet for 2 days of their life knows that stealing intellectual property is a huge thing that happens constantly. If not for ourladypeace.net nobody would have seen the artwork yet. So yay for ourladypeace.net.

There's really nothing else to say after reading this. You said everything perfectly, the way I couldn't, but you are absolutely correct.

Honestly, olp.net isn't that bad. It's just nowhere near good. The worst thing is, I paid to have a transparent human membership and I got this OLP tag thingy in the mail. It doesn't have a membership name, number or anything on it. It could easily be scanned and copied... Oh and the best part is, I was sent it like a week after our local Saskatchewan, Regina to be exact OLP concert... Wow isn't that useful? For how often OLP come to Saskatchewan or anywhere near, I might be able to use it in 2009.

Actually you can't just do a right click... all pics on .net are coded so that people can't do that. When you right click you get the popup message: "Thank you for respecting ourladypeace.net media".

OK, still, anyone with remedial knowledge of the internet will still be able to get that picture Kathy.

You still seem to skip the main point of my message. The real draw to OLP fans is hearing the two new songs, and well, no one gave a crap when they were posted everywhere on here. Where were the complaints on that? Wouldn't it have been more useful to post the song on the OLP.net site so the members can hear one of the new songs rather than see the cover of HIPT with Sol's head slapped on it?

when i first saw the cover, i thought it was just photoshopped by someone. it took me a while to believe it was actually the real cover.

First of all, ppl DID care when KOTM was ripped and shared. But you didn't see me complaining about that because it was NOT a "members only" stream, it was available to everyone who visits .net (not just members), since it had already been released to radio.

My only arguments are...

1) Every time something that is made "members only" is stolen and made available elsewhere, it hurts my ability (as a part of the .net team) to ask for more exclusive content from Ultrastar/Coalition/Sony. Since KOTM was free, not for members, I had no reason to bitch about that.
2) The biggest pushers of the "more/better content" request on .net are also the ones who are sabotaging our ability to get it.

People are arguing with me but missing my point. It doesn't matter if someone else would have done it, it doesn't matter who did it, it doesn't matter if it happened before, and it doesn't matter what everyone here thinks is valuable content on .net. My points 1 & 2 above still apply.

I have come out of lurking to make one point that I don't think has been made yet.

It doesn't matter that that album cover was exclusive, because anyone can sign up for a free .net account and see it anyway.

If Kaegan had posted that the cover was on .net and then pointed out to everyone how to get themselves a free membership to see it, that would have been totally above the board and yet the end result is exactly the same as him posting the image here.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

There are two things that I find pathetic about this thread. If anyone can guess what they are, they win a gold star.

That's my post in the OLP section for the year, see you again next fall.

things to know about the internet: everything gets stolen, and put elsewhere.

also...the cm is part of the olp community. we're all friends around here...and friends share with friends, no? i know if i had content that my friend wanted, but couldn't afford to pay 30 some dollars for, i'd share it with them. it's not exactly nice to say 'hah, i have this, but you can't see it!' yes, there's rules governing it...but....seriously, how much stuff does the cm community have that it shouldn't because of rules? every music community is like that, i'm sure.

and seriously...after all the crap with .net, you have to expect the members to disrespect it, and it's rules. with all the initial problems, unfulfilled promises, and so forth, you can not, and should not, expect your members to abide by the rules. ultrastar did not abide by the rules that they initially set out (remember josh's huuuuuuge letter about that??) so why should the members?

yes, that's a stupid "you did it, so i can too" argument....but damn it, do not expect the members to respect the rules of some website that does not respect the members!

that being said, .net is turning itself around (thanks in part to you, kathy), but it's going to take a long time for it to ever gain back the respect of the members that it lost.

I just want to say one last thing in here.

Since I've been back posting every once in a while, every time I come across a post by Kathy, it's complaining about how she doesn't like the CM. You say you don't like how cynical we are, how we bring up the negative in our days, how you don't like this supposed exclusive content leaked online, and how this community basically exists on stealing.

My question to you is this: Why are you even here? I mean, you complain just as much as I did in my immature 18 year old hayday on here, and well, it's not very becoming. It's a picture. Get over it.

Way to turn an issues argument into a something personal.

Yes, of course we had that lovely discussion about the negativity, which is why I am only on the CM for OLP and Chantal related news/photos/discussions and I generally ignore every other forum instead of posting 30 times a day like I used to. And then there's this discussion. That's it.

-NONE of my posts in between the time of that first discussion and this one have been complaints. It just happens that these two threads were/are pretty popular and higher profile than anything else I've posted.
-I've never said that everyone here is cynical or that "this community basically exists on stealing".

Don't put words in my mouth, and don't say that all of my posts were complaints when they were not. If you’re going to attack or question me, it would help if your arguments were factual. I can't have much respect for someone who posts exaggerations and lies.

Wow - this thread is the most action the CM has seen in awhile. How interesting, and sad.
