i wonder if this greatest hits thing means that olp won't be making music now.

and yea, i'm with rob, how creative of them to stick to a hackneyed (and inaccurate) album name rather than to think of a new one. but then, i don't really expect olp to think that much anymore.

Well, Steve said in his blog he's working on some ideas/music for "the next time we get together to write for the next album"

In the press release when listing all the stuff they've done, I think. I'm not sure if that was it exactly but I remember reading 2 DVD's somewhere aswell.

Obviously one is the Live DVD, but I'm thinking that the other one is the DVD part of the dueldisk HIPT. Which shouldn't really count. lol.

Oh you're right, that's where it came from.

And FYI - I saw the Columbia tracklist this morning (the one Gail posted) but Coalition said it is incorrect and provided the correct order, which I posted as News on .net as soon as they sent it. See below....

Starseed
The Birdman
Naveed
Superman's Dead
Clumsy
4am
One Man Army
Is Anybody Home?
Thief
In Repair
Life
Somewhere Out There
Innocent
Where Are You
Angels Losing Sleep
Will the Future Blame Us
Kiss On The Mouth
Better Than Here

I'm not sure why but I was sort of hoping there would be like one or two variations of the original tunes.
Like an acoustic song or a remix or something.
Aw well.

Interesting that they stayed chronological. Doing that will probably make the cd flow the best, anyways. haha. A pretty good display of their evolution.

I love how they got the chronology wrong though...

Birdman - February 24, 1994
Starseed - May 16, 1994

unless of course Rich and Shelley have been wrong all these years...

...i don't see the need for the three singles off hipt to be on there. granted, they do have three from all the other cds...except gravity.

but really, to rehash fairly recently released singles seems pretty pointless to me.

yeah future never really went anywhere.
I think that they wanted to keep a good balence of the old and the new to draw in equal fans of both ends of the spectrum. So new fans who never bought the album can get the singles they want and the old fans can relive the old days with a good feel for their more recent progress.

starting off the greatest hits with Starseed is probably the best thing about this album.

actually there are only 2 from Spiritual Machines also. They didn't add Right Behind You (Mafia) which they should have. I'd rather have that song instead of Life personally, or that song instead of 3 singles from HIPT.

This is hard to explain, seeing this track list reminds me of just a basic concert of OLP. They might not be in the same order when seeing them but they usually play them all.

311 played 80 of their songs though out their tour, playing different songs each night, ever the same show. I wish OLP would play something like that. Randomly you will hear story of 1000 aisles, then middle of yesterday, not single single single single track off new record single single.

Thats just me.

Some bands are lazy though. When you tour night after night, even if you're getting bored of playing a certain song, it's easier to play that one every night then to have a long list of songs ready to break into. There are tons of factors like timing, memorizing and a lot of practice needed to resurrect a song that hasn't been played in a long time. If bands wanted to and worked their asses off, they could have most of their songs ready to be played live at every show.

I do agree with you, that would be cool to see bands play completely different setlists instead of singles all the time. Especially with OLP. When they played in Saskatoon in early may and then Regina in late July, almost 3 months later. The setlists were IDENTICAL. Almost the same order too. The only difference was that for the second show in July, they cut the setlist shorter by one or two songs. No new ones added though...

That bugged me a bit. 3 months apart and the exact same concert? Surely bands can do better than that to change up their routines. At least by a song or two.

because it wasn't a "greatest hit"

radio only, with no video (;)) left it in a position where it's much harder to gain popularity

I like the art, and I love that I was able to post it on .net before Sony/Columbia/Coalition use it for anything else.
