y'know, as much flak as alan gets around here...he's really had the best argument thus far. and really...would the board be what it is without those people that stir shit up? nope. alan, and those like him, made things interesting, and got our brains working. i think someone said earlier in the thread that arguments and controversy are necessary, be it for critical thinking, or to solve things.

Honestly, even if we were to bring back someone like Dan, it wouldn't fix the board. If someone pissed me off, it wouldn't fix the board.

We should try to get Nikki back on here. Anyone that was responsible for her departure should apologize to her and make her feel like she is a wanted member here. I mean, as much as we had out problems, she did keep this board running with whatever she had to say during the slower days, even if she always hated me before I spoke to her. Heh.

And honestly, I didn't contribute much to this board. Many of my 8000 origional posts were complete nonsense. If anything, I brought us the gift of free music before Pitchfork started taking that away from me. I would say someone like Matt (I think that was his name) in the political forums brought a whole lot more to this board. He made us think. His extremely Republican values made us all debate certain topics, and that's what we need here. Intelligent people willing to discuss things besides what they last ate.

If anything, we should seriously be brainstorming ideas to bring BBTS and the CM back together. Both Matt and Josh are willing to make this happen, so we should be willing to reconcile with Nikki. Honestly. Of the new generation of important people on this board, she seriously was the spokesperson for the CM. We need to bring her back so there is less separation between boards. I am willing to keep my mouth shut when I am mad, and everyone else here should be too with her. I don't care if we have to treat her like a fine piece of china, we're going to make this work.

Honestly, would anyone be opposed to having a like here or there to the BBTS website to keep that thing going strong? And vice versa? By no means am I looking for BBTS to go under here, I just want things back to normal. I wouldn't even mind if the background on this board was "Go to BBTS or you get stabbed" or something. I want people like Joey and Lori posting here on a normal basis again. If we try, we can make this happen.

Yeah, and this is Alan being the optimisic one here. I know, that's just fucked up.

hmm. nice sentiments, if a little unrealistic. it's one thing to stay true to the original values of the board, but another to wrestle with the changes that come with time.

honestly, i don't even see the point of this whole argument. so what if the cm and bbts are alike? i understand that people might feel that bbts is taking some of the crowd from the cm, but regardless, where does anyone get off trying to decide whether the bbts should or should not exist? if you don't like the place, then don't visit the place, plain and simple. if the cm is becoming boring to you, then i'd suggest that you either try and make it more exciting, or get a new hobby. for cripes' sake, people, it's only the internet.

as for nikki, it was her choice to leave, and her choice to stay that way. she's already made up her mind about this place. threads have been made, people have begged, but if she still thinks that the entire cm hates her after reading the things that some people said in this thread, then that's her call. i'm not saying that we shouldn't try to get her back, but tormenting her and trying to force her to come back is not a good idea.

My plan is that when/if OLP takes care of their fan club, I can close down Bring Back the Sun, work out how to migrate things such as the discography from BBTS into the CM, and the bringbackthesun.com domain can go back to being where I keep random crap and my tape trading pages.

I think it would be great to develop a user-friendly way of integrating the CM forums, the discography from BBTS, and the tour archive/setlists/reviews/etc. on the hub site and I have some ideas of how the layout for some of it would be, but I will need to eventually work out the best way of coding it.

I told Josh the other night that whatever he wants to do, he has my permission to make it happen. If we needed additonal server space, then a few extra dollars won't be any big deal to me. I've been working on some very small updates to this site. I am not as talented as Al or Josh at building websites, so I can only contribute financial backing and webspace. Narf.

I spoke to Nikki a month or two ago and told her that myself and everyone else wanted her back. I hope she chooses to. I still stand by my comment that when it comes down to moderation, we have to do it in a better way than the ban-hammer. Nikki took up for me and a lot of other people to the end, even when she felt we were in the wrong. We didn't return the favor. I think that is what bothered her the most. I wish she had called me on my mistakes instead of backing me up. It's the right thing to do.

Alan, your posts have made me happy that I didn't ban you once again when you returned. Thanks for making growing into the person lots of people knew you could be. And I agree with you that I really wish that some of the other folks would come back too. I hope they will and breathe some new life into the board.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

I do agree that the deeper debates kept the ties in the "stupid" threads going. I just haven't seen any lately that I am interested in or have enough information about to even have an opinion.
