The CM and BBTS

Think of it this way. Would you have stuck around the CM initially if you saw that one or two people posted per day (as is the case with the BBTS)? probably not. That's what I'm trying to get at. It isn't beating a dead horse and to be honest if you don't like it then don't read the thread. It really is that simple.

From my view you're missing the point. You're assuming the creation of BBTS was because Nikki was trying to take revenge. This isn't true, the creation of BBTS was to rebel against .net and it's crappyness. You're assuming because Nikki posts on that board that the reason it was created is for that. This isn't true. It's a fallacy even isn't? False Cause? I also believe it was Josh who created BBTS was it not? My saying this is beating a dead horse is because all this is becoming is just people arguing about why Nikki left and why she did it and why she posts somewhere else. It's her life, it's her reasons, it's her decision. You don't know why she did what she did, you can assume but unless you're Nikki you don't know for sure. It's time to give it a rest and move on and enjoy whatever board/boards you wanna enjoy. If you don't like BBTS you don't have to read it. I also doubt having two boards with similar topics is gonna be deprivating to noobs. They'll be ok.

And Kathy, I wasn't talking about political discussion/arguments. I'm talking about the stuff that has always gone on on the CM for years before you knew about this place. Arguments like what happened with chris and Nikki are common on every message board. No one elsewhere takes them to heart.

People just need to grow up. Seriously.

I'm just explaining why I personally don't post much lately and replying to the ppl who responded to my "negativity" comment (those who assumed I meant arguments and such). Some people seem to think that there are people boycotting the CM because Nikki left. First of all it's not true in general, and more specifically it has nothing to do with why I don't post here as much as I used to.

And FYI... about your "before you knew this place" comment. I was on the CM (along with the OMA, CC, PPU) for years under various usernames, very rarely posting until 2005. I know most of what's gone on over the years.

This is really just stupid. We all need to grow up. Just because some of us have some personal issues is no reason for this fissure. I have been on a lot of boards for alot of years, and the CM is by the best. I don't particularly obsess over OLP anymore, but I stayed here because of the people and want to keep posting. And the occassional OLP info slips into my head, well that's just a bonus. What really bothers me, Kathy, is that you said that this place was negative. I love you dearly, but the majority of your posts even when you first starting posting were negative and gave the impression that you were always depressed. I know this is not the case and that we are not personal friends, but this place is NOT negative by any means. Discussions like these do not lead me to hold grudges against anyone here, and I have been attacked a million times! Hello, I'm the lone mormon!

Gee thanks. I had a couple of insane family problems that I posted about, along with death of a friend, getting braces on, and preparing for surgery. My friends on here helped me through that. Aside from those the vast majority of my posts were not negative... they were random and funny conversations back and forth with Nikki and others, they were TWNB, they were show reviews from the 20+ concerts I've been to this year, they were what I ate today and what music I listen to. Clearly you remember just the times I used the "support group" thread. Nice of you to say "the majority" of my posts were negative... you can't support that because it's not true.

I came on here a month or two ago about 8 or 10 days in a row to find that most of the active threads were the "open letters to people you're mad at" and 'today sucked because" type of threads. That was when I decided to stop visiting every day. I came here for fun and friendship and it was missing. I have no problem supporting people when they have a bad day... but we're all pretty lucky people in this world and our lives don't suck so bad that we have nothing else to talk about for a week straight.

Eh. Thats just a phase though.

If you did the same thing about a year ago you would have found Alex's late night drunken antics to be the most common threads.

People complain. A lot. And the internet is a good place to do it in because no one can tell you to shut up and stop whining. That has always been the case with this place.

I donno about the rest of you guys but I dont visit these "what are you listening to" "what did you last eat" "whats are you currently looking at" "what did you learn today" type threads. There isn't a lot of discussion there and quite frankly, I don't care a whole lot. But if your going to be in threads talking about what is shitty then your going to be reading shitty complaints all the time. People go there to rant, vent and move on. I wouldn't give what is said there a lot of my time. So really, I don't find this place very negative. But maybe its just because I don't read a lot of the stuff that is meant to be negative. That's just my preference.

What does bother me though, is that everyone is talking about how this place is dying and there is no discussion and no one is here and blah blah blah. Then do something about it! Start threads. Start a discussion. Bring up topics people want to talk about. Do the things that you want to see more of here. Don't just whine about it.

I can't help but continue to agree with Cass and Sarah.

You know, the point of this thread was to maybe reconcile things and get the cm a bit back on track. The motivation behind this thread hasn't been to get people to start being friendly again or whatever, because frankly I don't talk to any of you outside of the CM. A lot of you I don't even know your names, to be honest. However, I do want to see the OLP community continue to exist for those who want an outlet to discuss the band and meet other fans.

I'll make this point again that the fact there are two forums (CM and CM+Nikki) doesn't seem very good for the community. I think the work Josh has done at BBTS is awesome. I just don't think there is a reason for two message boards. I just think what has caused the CM's demise was a childish reaction by one person who happened to be the largest contributor to the community.

First of all, any non-bitching conversations just died... starting a new topic or trying to resurrect threads didn't help, and it WAS attempted by people. And meh... not worth the continued effort when I'm talking to everyone on other boards and on MSN/AIM anyway.

Secondly, I haven't complained about it!! I just happily moved on to other things that I enjoy, while still checking back here frequently to see if there is any news or interesting conversation. I only posted in this thread to try to explain why some ppl (not just me) choose to visit less frequently. Some ppl seem to think there was a mass exodus either to BBTS for whatever reason, or because Nikki left, which are both not correct, which is the only reason I wanted to post. Apparently I can't explain myself without people jumping down my throat.

There's no point in arguing about it. It's a personal thing. Obviously we all have different relationship with people on here, we all get something different out of this site, we all interpret things differently, etc. When things change, we deal with it. I wasn't trying to start an argument and I wasn't complaining, I was trying to explain the subjective reasons why myself and others are no longer regular posters. You feel differently about this site, and that's great. Case closed. I'm confused why people are arguing my personal opinion.

Sorry to be pessimistic but the reason this place is so down lately is because the vast majority of influential posters have moved on.

Mostly off the top of my head:
Susan, alex, all three robs, nikki, lando and his aliases, aarin, jeff, alan, bethany, all three joshes, kimmy, al, lori, jim, sand, claire, maria, soozy, joey, jess etc. all rarely post or don't at all.

barring a few exceptions the rest of us either don't have a ton to offer or just don't bother offering. that's why all we talk about is what we're eating and who we're mad at. sad but true.

the cm has ESPECIALLY been dead since nikki went away. not implying anything, but that's just how it was.

i don't know what else to say except i still don't find the CM negative at all, compared to other boards. the complaining that people do here is ONLY NATURAL, like sarah said, the internet is a fantastic thing to have around when you are stressed/hating life/whatever. i don't know why you'd take these real seriously, they're just rants so people themselves can vent and get better...

and working for a television series that films 95% of the material during the summer, I travel all over North America during that time which is why I don't post often during the summer season.

But the fact that other people don't post a lot anymore... I'd have to guess it's because I'm not around and that without me hangin' out on the CM it just doesn't seem "cool" anymore.

Also let it be known that my theory is bullshit.
