I just want to point out that I don't see many people over here posting about OLP. On BBTS, OLP discussion is a very big part of the boards. Sure it may be second to random conversation (just like on here) but what forum isn't? I like that about BBTS.
High five for Josh for everything he said.
I don't feel bad about being a member of or posting on both forums. Why? Because I <i>enjoy</i> it. There's nothing wrong with enjoying yourself on the web by having conversations with people.
Yeah I like this site better for the conversation. There's more of it. But that doesn't mean that people shouldn't be allowed to post over on the other site too. Perhaps get rid of the rest of the chat area, but I think Josh's intentions and the fact that people seem to like posting over there are a perfectly reasonable explanation for the existence of the board.

This is a prime example of why some ppl now have 2 posts per day on this site now, as opposed to 20 or 40 a few months ago. Everything is bitching, whining, or dragging old issues (that we've already beaten to death) through the mud again. The negativity on this site is all that's left.
<I><B>"I know this sounds corny, and I might be a little bit drunk, but honest to god, thank you everybody"</B></I>
i don't see it. there's just as much here as on bbts. sure, if you look for the negative, it's here...if you dig a bit, or if a question is raised. but many people have no idea what happened to cause a revolt against the cm by a few members...so, old stuff is brought up again because it was never fully explained. once everyone has an understanding, i think it would be easier for all of us to move on.
and on bbts, you get all the comments about how the cm is not a fun environment, there's people here that are jerks, yadda yadda...to me, that's bitching and whining. don't say it's here, without seeing that same stuff on bbts. i find it be more negative over there.

The forum part of bbts seems exactly the same as this one. There is an OLP area here, so it's not like OLP discussion is not allowed. I really don't care either way, it just seems redundant to me. And I am sad to see the CM dwindle to nothing. Alot of people have invested alot of time here, and I can already see some of my relationships with some people fading because the CM is dead.

I didn't say discussion of OLP wasn't allowed here, I'm just saying you don't see it as much here anymore.

J-Neli wrote:Nikki stated in her thread about the CM on the BBTS that the reason she posts there and not here is because people like Chris and Alan can't post there, and essentially that the modding here is non-existant. If the modding here is non-existant and she won't post, I would assume that BBTS where she does post would have more modding. Now that I know she is an admin, I understand things a lot more. She can do there what she couldn't do here, and that is control who can and cannot participate.
Oh did she? I don't read everything that gets posted over there so I guess I missed that... but yeah if she were to go crazy with moderating and banning I would have a problem with that.
She was/is an administrator here too, though, so it's not really as if she has greater authority there than on the CM.

I agree with Cass and Laurel's comments above. Also...
Do you not visit other forums? This one is tame compared to every other forum I have visited. Sometimes it actually makes me cringe just how bubblegum-like this place is. I don't know, perhaps you're seeking some sort of fantasy setting, but this isn't a kindergarten classroom. It's an internet message board. People sometimes have riffs and because it's a message board no one really cares. If someone is taking an internet message board to heart, it's time to re-evaluate their lives in my opinion.
I should also mention that the reason I started this thread was to try and reconcile whatever happened. While I have never posted on the BBTS, it seems like it was a redundant forum (not intended to be a diss towards Josh) and the CM could benefit if the two forums were combined in some form. I think it's just wrong that because one person decided to have a bit of a hissy fit and take off to another forum that it has led to the CM's demise, when it was completely unnecessary. But whatever, it doesn't matter.

And if I get my site coding and understanding of phpBB coding ever up to par, maybe I'll be confident enough to see if we can combine BBTS and the CM if Matt would be interested in trying that. I completely agree that 1 really sweet site is better than 2 okay sites.

and right there is the reason that these things need to be discussed, instead of just saying 'oh, we should stop bringing up old stuff'. discussing all these things that many people just want to ignore is resulting in the idea of something good...that is, if josh feels like becoming super technical wizard man.
*ahem*
This topic (at least the first page of the bitching and moaning and whining) is pathetic. Let's all just grow up. Not bitch about there being another message board out there, it's a big internet people.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf
Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...
Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...
So glad you could stay
Forever
He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand
You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..
So glad you could stay
Forever

You're completely missing the point Rusty.
If you're looking at the CM and the BBTS as part of the OLP community, for someone who has become interested in OLP and wants to join the community, it would be a lot more to their benefit to have one official fansite (official in the sense that the fans know it is where fans talk about the band) rather than a couple smaller ones. A lot of fans of other bands have realized this.
I don't really care much for OLP but I recognize that they were important to me before, and they will continue to be important to someone, and if that's the case it would be fitting to have somewhere to go to. This had been the case for 4 years. Then Nikki got mad and it completely fell apart. Essentially, because of her high post count here and at BBTS, she is responsible for helping keep the community going. I could understand if she decided not to post on any sites anymore, but the fact she's still involved in the OLP community but is boycotting this site isn't really doing anything for the OLP community at all.
Think of it this way. Would you have stuck around the CM initially if you saw that one or two people posted per day (as is the case with the BBTS)? probably not. That's what I'm trying to get at. It isn't beating a dead horse and to be honest if you don't like it then don't read the thread. It really is that simple.

Rusty, there's an entire thread over there that's the exact same as this one. In fact, that one's 7 pages in length. I kind of agree with the sentiment that having two boards is redundant.. The discography section on BBTS is awesome, I'll say that, Josh has put together something really unique over there with that aspect of the site.
But the fact that certain individuals left here because they were so upset over people not caring and the "hostile" environment does seem kind of childish. Compared to other boards I've frequented, this is place has the tame atmosphere of a high school re-union; everybody tries to not step on eachother's toes.. and there's a handful of individuals who are still immature and just never change.
I echo Jim in saying that if you're taking an internet message board to heart.. you need to re-evalute your priorities. For a group of "strangers" from different corners of the globe, we all get along pretty damn good. Sometimes people disagree, sometimes people don't get what they want, sometimes people don't have full control.. That's life.. We all get over it.

It's been noted before that Nikki's reasons for leaving the CM were just that.
Her reasons, not your own. ANything else is heresay and rumors.
Why are we digging up the past?
To stop people like you from killing babies.
Or stealing babies.

See, we still kick out the OLP once and awhile.

i have one question.
Do people ever post the last thing they ate on here and then run over to BBTS to post the same thing? anything like that?
sounds pretty hardcore.

faninor wrote:Oh so I use BBTS for leaking material? That's news to me.
It is about making a website similar to ourladypeace.net, but without demanding $25 from each fan. Sure I'll put some live material and stuff up, because so does ourladypeace.net, and there are some people out there who just can't figure out how to use Direct Connect for the hub. But the hub is still where I share everything.
Could I have put all this onto the CM? Maybe Matt would've agreed to that, however, it is a little difficult to integrate the different parts of the website that I've made into the message board, and involves working directly with the structure of the site's databases, and I didn't want to risk breaking a somewhat popular forum with a lot of existing content.
And it's funny that you mentioned how I already have the hub, because for a few months I've been thinking about integrating the hub's website into BBTS, since the hub website has a nice tour archive and that would be a logical addition to BBTS. I just haven't decided exactly how I would go about doing that, since the hub website has Silverchair and Pedestrian as well. Also BBTS's server is fairly slow, so I would probably have to get a new host when I join the two sites, but I can't afford that at the moment.
touché. i still have some problems with the whole thing, but whatever, it has some good merit at least.

From my view you're missing the point. You're assuming the creation of BBTS was because Nikki was trying to take revenge. This isn't true, the creation of BBTS was to rebel against .net and it's crappyness. You're assuming because Nikki posts on that board that the reason it was created is for that. This isn't true. It's a fallacy even isn't? False Cause? I also believe it was Josh who created BBTS was it not? My saying this is beating a dead horse is because all this is becoming is just people arguing about why Nikki left and why she did it and why she posts somewhere else. It's her life, it's her reasons, it's her decision. You don't know why she did what she did, you can assume but unless you're Nikki you don't know for sure. It's time to give it a rest and move on and enjoy whatever board/boards you wanna enjoy. If you don't like BBTS you don't have to read it. I also doubt having two boards with similar topics is gonna be deprivating to noobs. They'll be ok.
