I always want to get autographed items off eBay but feel like it's cheating.
That and it only encourages non-fans to get into exclusive events like this to sell their wares.

Yeah. I've only bought autographs that I know I'll never ever be able to get in real life. Bands that are impossible to meet and/or with band members that aren't in bands anymore.

Okay, it's now been over a week, and I find that I'm mostly disappointed with HIPT. The album is uncommercial, which I don't have a problem with at all. But I think if you're going to make an album that isn't going to sell, at least go all the way (see SM). It seems like OLP wanted to make an album that isn't as pop as Gravity, but didn't want to stray too far from it. They were torn in two directions... Mike Turner OLP and Bob Rock/Gravity OLP.

Almost every single song on Gravity would make a better single than anything off of HIPT. I do like Angels/Losing/Sleep, WTSMOYF, WOAS, and Al Genina quite a bit. But the rest of the album is suprisingly dull. It's kind of sad actually when you go back and listen to past OLP albums. Say what you will about Gravity, but at least it had a pop appeal to it.

HIPT is not a horrible album. It's merely satisfactory, which is disappointing considering it's OLP (a very talented band, and one of my personal favorites). There has been a conscious effort over the past two albums to hide the aspects of OLP's music which made them unique and interesting. It worked on Gravity (at least commercially), but not on HIPT.

Its a good album, I loved it for a week, but then got distracted.

I go through phases with OLP, im in a major Naveed phase now, and I just got out of a weird Gravity phase.

You think HIPT is "uncommercial"? I think a lot of the songs on it would do really well as singles, personally.

SM is definately not a 180º from commercial, either.

I agree. It's not Kid A, but it's defintely more challenging of a listen than a lot of albums out there. Besides, isn't spiritual machines OLP's least selling album (so far)? I always assumed that was part of the reason why they went with Bob Rock and a Gravity type record... the sales were slipping.

Hopefully I get my signed copy tomorrow. If not, there's always the day after.
