If you just look at pictures, New Orleans looks like a third world country.

Also tired of hearing about Global Warming. Enough

Its pretty much a third world city now, Its got it just as bad as Africa does, unfortunately, Africa is like that all the time.

New Orleans is making progress now though.

yes it is weird. But you can almost do that with anything. I think this person had too much times on their hands.

the cd is political and deals with social conscious so it isn;t too odd that something happens to those two things.

That was horribly innapropriate and inconsiderate in this thread.

yeah, my bad. but what i meant by it was that i was supprised that they would play on the same property as where they had the refugees. i actually thought they should have moved the game, and i was dissapointed in the fact that they did not. i guess i should have made that clear in my last posts.

they brought anywhere from 1200 to 3000 refugees into Corpus Christi. (55 miles away from me) some of them just want a hot meal, they're tired of water and snacks. many cling to the stuff they have with them with dear life. let's face it, it's all they have. they're getting shots, a place to sleep, and a bus pass. others with the means simply check in, get the shot, and go get a room in a hotel. a few even want to go to the airport and fly to relatives in other parts of the country. it's calm, there's no violence breaking out, or anything. big up's to TexAs for taking everyone we have in.

global warming has nothing to do with this disaster, it's not mother nature's fault. it's an engineering fault. the city is the biggest engineering blunder ever. the city was built below sea level, surrounded by a massive lake, a massive river, and of course the gulf. i've read reports as far back as 1996 or so, saying a catagory 3, and even a large catagory 2 hurricane could wipe this city out.

a catagory 5 hurricane can hit any other part of the us right now, and the damage you would see there, would not compare to the damage in New Orleans.

Thanks for clearing the football thing up, Reno. I was really disappointed that you'd be talking about sports in a thread about this... glad to hear it was just a misunderstanding. :)

both engineering and global warming/changing of earth.

engineering could have prevented cat 3, but not cat 5 hurricane. so that in itself was a fault.

however, hurricanes have been blistering through the area(s), and the frequency is pretty high. if you look at all the natural disasters (earthquake, tsunami, hurricane, and hell knows what else) there has to be a correlation to something, and the most logical thing would be global warming due to CO2 emissions and such. (rising of sea level temperatures killing fish and plankton, frogs, glaciers melting). albeit there are some naysayers out there who say that CO2 doesnt effect global warming, and that the rise in temperatures is just a result of a cycle of the earth.

One thing really scares me, is that these will become more common, and more powerful in the future, because of Global Warming.

And We're not doing anything about it!!

Enough with the Global Warming crap it is not true. I’m looking back in the past and in the past there were times that hurricanes weren't that bad then there were times they were. Then in the 90's really most of them weren't that many bad of hurricanes. Now starting last year there is. It's a cycle, NOT Global Warming. People say its Global Warming because they want something to blame it on like the whole world does and I hate it. I'm not ashamed to be an American either but I can't stand when some pole say it just one person’s fault because it's not.

They mayor is blaming President Bush for the whole thing. A lot of this was Bush fault for not bringing the relief fast enough, and he and his administration will get the blame but not as much as I think he is was going to get because of how the Chief Justice died last night. It is not all of Bush fault. It's the Mayor fault and the governors fault. The mayor is now going on TV blaming Bush for all of this.

You know what I will say to the New Orleans mayor if he really wanted to help. I would say why isn't he down in New Orleans helping his people in this tragedy? Why are you going on radio stations, and talking to media, and not helping your people? If I was mayor in that city I would still be down there helping everyone out until everyone is evacuated. I wouldn't have time to talk to the media because I will try to help people out and telling the government communications on where people are and are not. What needs to be done and what does not need to happen. I will do everything I can to save and help the people down there and I would of defiantly prepare BEFORE the storm. That is what a Mayor and Governor does.

It's not Bush’s entire fault, and the people who think it is are STUPID. I'm not saying that Bush is not to blame because he is on some of it, but it’s also the mayor. He was told about this hurricane and as soon of he was told he should have gotten the city ready. It doesn't matter what category it was. When the hurricane hit Florida It’s was category 1 and killed like 7 people.

When these things come you have to think of the worse that can happen. When the National Weather Service came out with that message that practically saying that New Orleans will be destroy. He just sat there doing nothing. Why didn’t he prepare for this with the governor of New Orleans? That mayor is an asshole, and part of the blame also goes on him and the governor.

earthquakes happen all the time. some are just more powerful than others.

in terms of hurricanes, there's a season for hurricanes, and they don't come all the time. for the most part, they've stayed in that season.

the gulf's waters are always hot. they're always 80+ degrees in july and august.

It doesn't matter like I said above that doesn't mean that you shouldn't prepare for these type of things. We all know that you never know what can happen. I know if was mayor I would be getting prepared before the storm like I would of with all hurricanes, because you never know what could happen.

You want to here a story of what the Mayor did. The Mayor told the bus drivers to go down to the Hyatt Hotel and rescue them while everyone at the New Orelans Convention Center were waiting in for who knows how long. Also, what the worse part of it and this is not Bush fault because the Mayor told the bus drivers to do this, and that is it was pretty much all white people. The mayor is a disgrace to New Orleans, and I feel so bad too all of those poeple at the Convention Center no matter what race you are you should be treated equally. That is what I have a huge problem with. People are not being treated equally and I hate that.

So, everyone should of been prepared for them in the summer because they know at least one is coming, and New Orleans did not. They were even told years ago that if a huge hurricane would hit that New Orleans wouldn't handle it, but did they listen NO and look what happens.

in response to that: yes earthquakes happen all the time. the key is that there's been more and more powerful ones happening, (ie. iran a couple years back on boxing day, some in japan). now is that due to global warming?....i really don't think so, but it could be.

gulf waters are hot, but they're probably hotter a couple degrees if you look at the trend (albeit i don't have data or anything for that). and a couple degrees makes a huge difference. for instance, look at the temperature of the human body and the pH of the human body. if those change slightly, you die. now if the temperature of the water changes slightly, aquatic life will have trouble surviving, they'll migrate to areas not seen before (ie. northern sunshine coast in B.C. now has jellyfish in record numbers), glaciers will melt and will cause sea levels to rise. and when sea levels rise, salt will accumulate in coastal areas, making land unusuable.

It doesn't matter like I said above that doesn't mean that you shouldn't prepare for these type of things. We all know that you never know what can happen. I know if was mayor I would be getting prepared before the storm like I would of with all hurricanes, because you never know what could happen.

engineering can't solve everything. that's why there are safety factors involved. we could build for a cat 5 storm, but how much would that cost and what's the likelihood of that happening? it's just like designing a 20 story apartment building in vancouver to withstand a plane crashing into it, or designing a regular house to withstand a 9.0 magnitude earthquake. now is it possible that a plane could crash into the apartment building, and a 9.0 magnitude earthquake could happen? yes, but obviously the chances are very low.

now you may say that new orleans knew about the storm a couple weeks beforehand, but to get that kind of detailed engineering takes time, personnel and money. and frankly, having a short time period like that would make it even more unlikely that an upgrade of a hurricane system would succeed.
