Hurricane Katrina
Does anyone know if there is going to be like a radiothon like some radio stations did to the tsunami relief.

So, I just moved into my apartment and have been in my own world since last Friday. I haven't had time to go to any news sites (I have come here though...go figure my priorites) or listen to the radio or see tv. I had absolutely no idea what was going on until yesterday. This is so horrible. I can't believe it
How sad.

They are bringing 1000 refugees to Salt Lake I heard. We also have a church store house and a satellite phone in New Orleans that will be immensely helpful.
Thank goodness I pay my tithing eh? Not to mention I live above sea level..
I can't really imagine the mentality of shooting down helicopters and planes. They must be losing it to do that.

Another thing is that I hate people going to turn this into afterwards is that its going to be turned into a political thing which is shouldn't. They are doing the best the media can really piss me off by over exagerating. I'm not saying that its not very very bad in New Orleans because it the worse ever but hey they could lay back on the releif on how long they got it their. Geez we are lucky to even do this kind of stuff in this country. If this was back in the 90's what would of we done. The people who are blaming Bush should shut up and help with the effort because its not Bush fault. Lets see you or one of them be president let see what you or one of them can do.
Is not fucking Bush fault so don't fucking blame this on him. This is what I'm saying everyone wants to blame someone that what we do in this country and its pethetic. It was 4 days because today they brung in releif and some reports say that the people might all be evacuated tonight which I don't think will happen because there is so many people still.

Five Days.

This was predicted early summer. I was in Florida early June. MY oldest brother lives there with his wife. I was talking with my sister-in-law.. there was still repairs being done from last year's 4 hurricans. She told me that they said this season will be worse..When I heard about this I remembered that. I made a donation to red cross the next morning. Before really knowing the devastatin. One of the papers here called irt our Tsumani.. It might as well be. 5 states are in emergency..
I haven't really read every post, but I did see something about BUSH being blamed. Also someone mentioned at one of the recent OLP shows raine said Katrina was Karma because of Bush. i do not think the hurricane is really his fault. I do believe in Karm thought. . I feel God is gving us a wake up call now before it gets too late. Although how much worse can it get when you had a Tsumani wipe our alot of south asia, Hurricanes ripping thourhg the lower USA and islands in the pacific.. Earthquakes almost monthly in Sri Lanka, Japan and India.. It is enough to make you scream.. Our environment is changing. The temps in teh oceans are different is why we are getting massive storms like we are.
All we can do is pray for these people and try to be kinder to our fellow man.. I can;t believe New Orleans is all but gone. iw as planning a trip there soon. . I am so sad there is nothing to go to
And even sadder so many lives were lost to this devastation..
I told my friend I had an amazing week this week. yet feel guitly cause so many people lost everything.
to answer someone's question . I know there are some telefons goiing on here and benefits.. I think Ellen D is doing somethign. She had family in New Orleans.
on a side note. My friend and I have been tryint o reach people we know in the areas.. No luck. We just hop ethey are okay..

actually, if it's anyone's fault, I would say it's bush's fault. What makes you say that it's not bush's fault? Sure, he may be doing his best, but it's clearly not good enough - and I think many peoples' point is that the leader of the richest country in the world SHOULD be able to have some response that IS good enough.
The relief effort is terribly organized. I am shocked at how long it has taken just to get basic supplies, like water and food, to these refugees. They knew it was coming. Sure, they didn't know the extent of the damage, but seriously, they needed some way better evacuation planning. 25% of new orleans is under the poverty line. TWENTY-FIVE percent. That means 1 in every 4 people probably had no way to get out of the city or anywhere to go. They needed to have buses ready before the storm hit so that people actually had the chance to get out. Seriously people, this is the richest nation in the world. You'd think they'd be able to prevent mass deaths from terrible conditions in the superdome and such. Even if they weren't absolutly sure if the hurricane was going to hit, seniors residences should have been evacuated days in advance. There should have been some plan as to where people in hospitals could be taken. Instead there was NOTHING, until it was too late. I'm not going to specifically blame Bush, because it's not his job description to plan this stuff. However, it is now (and by now, i mean three or four days ago) up to him to use his huge resources to provide all the support possible to those in need. He's the only one that's able to say...hmmm, let's airlift this huge supply of food we have in this place to the hurricane-affected area. Then it's up to those on the ground to direct the relief effort.
In summary, holy shit. The conditions are something that look like a third-world country. So many people are just dying because they can't get insulin or other basic medical supplies. It's just crazy.

Don't worry people are getting a lot better now because they do have the medical and food and water down there as well now. Stil its not great but people were are now a lot better than they were.
They also, are hoping that everyone will be evacuated by tonight. I heard a report on that on something or somewhere.
Do you think the media is going to turn this into a political event? I was already hearing that asshole Chris Matthews trying to turn this into a political even in which it shouldn't be.

I am really glad that people are finally getting evacuated, and will finally be getting the food and water and medicine they need. I'm still going to worry though. I'm a little worried that thousands and thousands died, and not all of them during the actual hurricane. I'm worried that people died because help didn't come in time. It's a little late to not worry, there buddy. This has been a tremendous tragedy, and I'm not just talking about the hurricane.

methinks the blame sould be put on a: whoever decided to build a city in a bowl surrounded by water, b: the wind, c: the rain
The looters aren't helping matters much either.

well obviously I don't blame bush for the hurricane itself or the place where new orleans was built, but I feel that he deserves the blame for the shoddy relief efforts and to an extent the lack of preparations leading to the hurricane.

Oh yeah. Those asshats too.
Looting is one thing (assuming it's for food to survive).
The raping, murders and random shootings are what I don't understand. I mean, really. What the hell can you stand to gain? Do they think the whole world has sunken in to chaos? It's so bizarre to see one isolated section of the world turn to total lawlessness within a matter of days.

The looters are in absolute chaos! Like the military helicopter comes with food and water, and other supplies. So they just storm it, so they had to throw the supplies at them from 3 meters up.

I hate to blame this on someone, but if I would blame it on a person (not saying I will) I will blame it on the mayor. Why doesn't he get off of his ass and start helping instead of going on radio stations and saying they need help. I saw him today just getting off of the plane just talking to the news media. WHY? Shouldn't he be in his own state helping the people who have been trapped as well? We all know they need help and we are helping so why doesn't he help? I do not get that.
They said they were controlling the looters today and it wasn't as bad as other days. I said don't worry meaning I was still worrying, but things are getting better. I don't know why I said don't worry really sorry.
Also I don't why the governor I think she is help out instead of coming on the phone and talking to people (news media). To me it just seems like she is sitting there and not actually going out and helping people.
It’s NOT Bush fault (at least not all of it, and not most of it). It is New Orleans local governments fault for them not being prepared; hey they knew the hurricane was coming. They had days in advanced so why doesn't the local government do anything about it when they knew the hurricane was coming? The National Weather Center even told New Orleans it was going to be horrible. New Orleans just sat there and didn't prepare. They could have done a lot more stuff but they didn't (the local government that is).
We should not turn this political (to bad it looks like its going to be), because it will just cause more chaos to this country, and just turn people more against each other and angry. To bad the jackass on the fucking show hardball is trying to do that. I guess its that asshole Chris Matthews that jackass.
I do think it might be a wake up call from Mother Nature. It kind of brings us back to reality I think. Also, they are saying it might not be because of global warming. They said there is cycle when hurricanes are bad, and then they aren't bad. I hate to say that they are predicting that we are in that cycle a lot of more years of bad hurricanes.
Airlines are offering the victims to go on planes and get out of all trouble. This makes me wonder why other states around the country can’t open up their buildings that are vacant and clean and store people there temporary. Until they find a better place for those people. Like I said above basically, I know us here in Detroit have a facility of where the horrible Detroit Lions use to play where they don’t called the Pontiac Silverdome. I think it can still be operational, so I don't know why we can't open that. So why, can’t other state open facilities temporay to get people out of harms way, and we give them shelter? What do you guys think? I know they can't live there forever, but at least it is some place to go. I still think we are lucky to have the kind of service that we have. To deliver food, water, and all of the other stuff like we can, and some other countries can't.
I just saw something on a TV station that at that relief concert Kanya West lashed out saying “George Bush does not care for black people” That is a bunch of BULLSHIT!!! (By the way NBC did not plan for him to say that.) and Kanya West should shut his fucking mouth. He has awful music and he is someone who just wants popularity. Watch he will come out with a statement apolgizing in a week or two (his record company will make him). A president cares for everyone no matter what race you are. Kanya West and a lot of other music artist needs to think about what they say before they say them instead of looking like a stupid idiots. Ha, Kanya West that asshole.
