The condescension? The implication that America (the US) is superior in every conceivable way?

The point is that we are an independant nation, and being called an inferior version of your country is offensive.

Sorry.. that is not what I intended. I was not the one who used the term "America Jr." first. I simply meant it as a smaller version of the original. (And by original, I mean that our dependence came first... wouldn't want to offend anyone here)

But see, Canada is not a smaller version of America. Yeah so we're democratic! The similarities end there.

Oh not this again. Fine, Canada's culture is so universally unique. I mean, God. I'd swear I was on another planet. You guys have movies and music and malls and taxes and voting and cars and phones and computers and all sorts of things that is foreign to the rest of the World. Please accept my most humble apology.

Doesn't matter if you used the term first or not. Canada is a completely different nation. By your definition, you'd have to call every nation that gained independance after the US "America Jr". And you'd have to refer to the US as the "Jr" of every independant country before it. It doesn't make sense in that context, and was originally and still is meant to be an insult implying the inferiority of Canada to the States.

What?

That's like me calling a black person a "stupid fucking ni**er", and then telling him that I didn't mean it as an insult. :freak:

No, it is more like me calling a person (no need to bring race into this) a swell guy and you saying "Well by swell you obviously meant stupid"

No, because "America Jr" is a term used and taken as an insult, which Canadians on the board have told you before.

I'm not getting emotional, it's just that this is a conversation that has been had many times on this board alone.

Sorry but I don't recall any. I just did a search and didn't find anything other than this thread. My mistake. Had someone not thrown out the term "America Jr" I wouldn't have used it myself. Please replace "America Jr" with "A democratic sovereign nation that also happens to reside in North America and has a lower population than the United States".

Man, don't be that way about it. We were just telling you as Canadians that we find that term offensive.

I'll touch it then.

I honestly think Canada and the US have similar culture. If you were to compare any other country to the United States i'm sure you'd find that Canada and the US were closest. They may not be exactly the same but there are more similarities than differences.

If you dropped someone from, Europe, Japan, Kenya, Austrailia, and Canada in the middle of Boston i'm sure the Canadian would be the most at home. Call me crazy but thats the way I see it.

you know for the democrats here it effing sucks that bush won, but it seems like he legitimately won...unless we find out that some illegal suppressive voting activities were going on. i know for a fact they were happening in detroit but wayne county ended up 70% kerry, so i am assuming that it definitely happened in ohio
