for all you downriverites (me and megan)and metro detroiters

Post by superboots »

my list is better than rob's "You know you are from long island" if list.
so here we go:
You know you are from Downriver:

1. if going to southland is your idea of fun on a weekend night
2. if "going to the shore" means going to biddle park
3.if you know who a Taylor tucky is
4.if you know that Grosse ile is better than Trenton, Trenton is better than Allen Park, Allen park is better than Lincoln Park, Lincoln Park is better than Melvindale, and Melvindale is better than River Rouge.
5.when people gasp when you tell them where you are from
6.when you make a day's trip out of going to Somerset mall
7.if people ask you where downriver is and you tell them that it's "where that big tire is"
8. if you think you are from the ghetto
9.you know you are from the northern downriver cities if you lie about how close you are to Detroit
10.if a plane takes off in front of your house and it doesn’t phase you
11.if you know that thunderbowl is the biggest bowling place ever
12.you over use the word “dude”
13. you know that if you live by the river, it takes you FOREVER to get anywhere
14. you have ever “cruised Eureka”

I will think of more and post them here

all you other metro detroiters, add your own here... they don't have to be about downriver, they can be about metro detroit, oakland county, etc

yay this is fun!!!
HARDCORE!!!

OMG. I can't believe I din't think fo you

the long island one is much better and easier to recognize if you live outside long island...ignore hers

Oooh, we've got one of those, too! Ours is great, cos it's got stuff on it that normal people would understand and laugh at us for. Examples of those:

74. F-16s buzz your house at like 150 feet.
68. Honesty, sincerity, and courtesy are things you once saw happen in Ohio.
48. You say "water" weird. (WOODER!!!)
41. You can point to the two closest nuclear plants.
39. You know that ACME is an actual store, not just a Warner Bros. creation.
37. You never had school on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur. (I just found out a few minutes ago that this isn't normal. :freak:)
34. The mafia runs half the businesses in your town.
11. You once said, "It smells like Philadelphia in here." (all the freaking time )

you know you're from oakland county when:

-you suffer from a chronic case of "cellphone neck"
-you have spent a better portion of your adolescent life at somerset mall
-going to michigan is expected of you...mention ohio and you're burned at the stake
-the nexus of your universe is just west of maple and woodward
-you have 3 or 4 starbucks within walking distance of your house
-you and everyone you know have a nasaly, spread accent
-you've been to temple more than you've been to your own church
-a little part of you dies when you learn that you have to leave your car at home for your freshman year of college
-your father is either a doctor, lawyer, or an engineer
-you know what a chaldean is
-you never met a louis vuitton purse you didn't love
-you're not sure what you would do with your summer if your family didn't belong to "the club"
-you've never been to school dance that was held in your gym...in fact you think the idea is hillarious
-speaking of gym, you have your own membership to one
-you didn't know your bus number in high school because you never took it...that's what stay at home moms are for
-with all of the money that your parents spent on your extracurricular activities over the years (and lessons), you could probably buy a small country

here are some for torontoians
you know you're from toronto when:
- you know what the t dot is but never say it because it sounds like a dorky white rapper's name
- A really great parking spot can move you to tears
- You can recommend about 3 good body piercing parlours
- You realize there are far more rainbow flags in the city than Canadian flags
- When the temperature rises above zero degrees, you yell "Woohooo! Patio weather!"
- You're guaranteed to know at least one person on every episode of speaker's Corner
- You can name at least three locations of The Beer Store that are open till 11 PM
-You never, never, never swim in the lake
- You can say "world's tallest freestanding structure" ten times fast
- You speak better Chinese than French
- You consider eye contact a sign of hostility and an invasion of your privacy
- It takes you half an hour to get to work by TTC and you are the envy of all your friends
- You laugh heartily at people who refer to hiway four hundred and one
- you can't walk one block with seeing a tim hortons
- and yes you walk

i'm from the 905 area not toronto but i can still relate to alot of these

Ha ha! You're from Oakland County!
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
