Why is everyone so negative about OLP lately?

No, more like they're repeating their first CD, but adding in some bullshit.

Argh...I hate this.

Argh.

If I had to make one wish, it would be that Raine writes lyrics under his old though process.........smart, meaningful, metaphorical. that would make me happy.

that would make me happy as well...

but the lyrics on this cd aren't bad... they just aren't good.

The lyrics are just very different, they are straightforward instead of metaphorical... and i'm ok with that(though i do like the older lyrics better). I know a lot of people here aren't ok with it.

Something i have noticed with OLP is that they can release a cd you love, then one you hate, then one that you love again. I know many people who hated happiness, and loved SM.

I think these lyrics are coming from the time we are in now... gravity must have come from chantel and such. this one is angrier and not as structured as gravity was. I think raine writes about the times he is going through.

What i'm tyring to say is... no matter how this cd turns out, they could put out one just as good as the first four after it.

What I think Raine meant was the new CD would have a more rockier sound then Gravity did. ALong the lines of Early U2(which is way before Joshua Tree-we are talking Boy, October, War and Unforgettable Fire-which MLK comes from) That is what I think he meant. I actually like Gravity and we were talking about that and other things about the new direction and stuff. I personally like the newer stuff. I love WTSOYF. It is a really good song.

I know a great bunch of you were disappointed with the new direction the band is going. There is nothing anyone can do, but I will tell you this-If you don't like the newer songs, then you probably won't like the new CD. They are going to record more in Oct, then choose from them. Hope to have it out by March. I look forward to it. It will not be like GRAVITY though

we will have to wait and see what is in store for us.

You know, every album they have put out has a different sound, and I don't really mind gravity. (though it isnt my favorite) I would much rather this sort of change then those bands that seem to do the same songs over and over. Change is good.

To Quote Raine-this will sound nothing like GRAVITY. :D

I came to this conclusion today...

The first four albums are art, in it's purest and most beautiful form (remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

Everything later appears to be in the form of "fun" music (fun, too, being in the eye of the beholder).

i don't know...

Doesn't seem like the guys are dealing with art when playing the birdman live, seems like they are having loads of fun.

I think the new stuff will be looked on as some classic songs soon...

I've been listening to them alot lately. And i just feel that some of them have that staying power. All of the first four cds had songs that had to grow on me. Gravity, well, at first i thought they were alright, but they never got good. This stuff is really getting good. Especially Talk Is Cheap.

Art can be fun, too.

But I'm saying that this strictly "fun" music isn't art (or at least not even close to as pure and beautiful as the other stuff).

I think some of the new stuff is that way. but some of the other new stuff isn't.

Talk is Cheap seems to have a lot of emotion.
WTSOYF sounds driven by something we haven't seen from OLP yet
Not Afraid also seems like it has emotion in it
WIC is the only one that seems like they are just having fun.

But even these emotionally driven songs aren't very artful. Compare them to the emotionally driven tracks from the first four albums.

Yes, i agree they aren't as good as those, but i still enjoy listening to the new songs. And i think i always will, just like the first four cds.
