This is the one time I think I may agree with something good charlotte did. They did the opposite. They let some car company sponsor them so they could lower ticket prices...That may be selling out slightly but I think they had the right intentions for their fans
That's what the Honda Civic tour does for anyone who goes on it. Incubus did it the year before. Said it was for the lower prices, then jumped on Lollapalooza where the tix were 80 bucks.
yeah... but a lot of band's would go for lollapalooza if given the chance, it's pretty much the most famous tour ever, and just to say they got to play it is something pretty special.

yeah but i think we already know their fucking opinions dont we? and i am so fucking tired of fucking hearing them that i am continuously saying fuck 'till i cant speak....

i can't belive what these guys are trying to do. so just because someone is doing something wrong like scalping a ticket, ticketmaster is going to do what a scalper did in the name of capitalism? doesn't that eventually justify what a scalper is doing?
Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome
if our battle cry has reached even one receptive ear
and another hand reaches out to take up our arms.
Nobody's gonna miss me, no tears will fall, no ones gonna weap, when i hit that road.
my boots are broken my brain is sore, fer keepin' up with thier little world, i got a heavy load.
gonna leave 'em all just like before, i'm big city bound, your always 17 in your hometown
Think of it this way. Can't a scalper buy a ticket at a high price and sell it for an even higher price? I mean, floor seats for The Rolling Stones were $300 to the general public at their last show here, which is insane enough. So I guess that makes it acceptable to make the tickets $1000 just so this "company" doesn't lose money. They fucking monopolize the market, so why doesn't the government do something about this? It's sick.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Exactly.
You're right Alan. What the fuck makes them think that they're still not gonna get scalped?
God I wish I could like...stop buying tickets from them. But since alot of bands use them and I'd rather cut off my right arm that NOT go to them, doesn't look like that will happen. If bands (and sporting events) have any sense, they will just use another service. Some ticketing service will pop up that won't do this shit. Who wants to start the CM ticketing service w/ me?

THANK YOU!
Anyway, this whole situation is ridiculous. Eventually, Ticketmaster'll realize that they're now making even more insane amounts of money off of us with the stupid auctioning system, and they'll sell ALL tickets by auction. Then it'll be impossible to go to concerts unless you're freaking rich. This is the worst idea ever... for us. Ticketmaster sure knows how to squeeze money out of music/sports fans.
I'm not concerned about OLP with this, though. I don't think they'll go for it. I'm worried about a lot of the other bands I wanna go see, though. *sigh* As if all the charges and crap aren't bad enough.

Is ticketmaster a total monopoly in the US and Canada? I know when I got my ticket for the Ottawa OLP show in February the only choice was to get it from tm.
Over here we have 3 national online music ticket places that I know of plus another one that does London shows only. And I think there might be one or two other places that you just call up. So if ticketmaster started being stupid and doing this bidding thing then hopefully the other places would be sensible and sell them normally. But then again maybe the promoters would realise they'd get more money from selling tickets through ticketmaster and give all their best seats to them.
However it works out, this is one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. It's bad enough when touts take some of the good tickets to resell, but for no-one to have the chance to get good tickets without paying silly amounts of money is just stupid.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.
And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

I think the venue determines the ticket broker. I live in the buffalo area, and all events that take place at HSBC Arena (where the buffalo sabres play) are sold through tickets.com. Most other venues choose to use ticketmaster though.
This is in response to the opening post. My friends and i say we remember when it only cost about 20 for top tikcets. now cheapest ticket is about 50(if lucky) you use to pay that much for scalp tickets. Managers, bands etc got hold of this and figure if people are willing to pay that much, then we will just charge that much. I think that is where this AUCTION idea comes in. I didn't hear fo that till I saw it here. I know some bands auction off tickets for charity-but to see a show.
It goes back to the consumer. As long as people are willing to pay, then it will continue. I paid $100 for A show I really wanted to see las tweek> The normal ticket was $60. I justified it by saying most shows are that much now. I also heard on EBAY the same show tickets were going for $400 or so. When people say HEY I REFUSE then they will stop. My friend rather not go to a show, then pay outrages pricess. I just saw on the news that Universal Records is lowering CD prices to $12.99 a CD.
P.S. the band PHISH is fighting Tikcetmaster on their Service charges. It is a no win situation unfortunately. TM owns alot o venues band pay at. SOme kine of blacklisting thing if they don't use TM for there sales.

that really sucks, because last olp show i went to i started calling repeatedly for seats the second the phones opened and got GREAT seats at a normal price, that kind of devotion deserves to rewarded, because the person willing to do that is probably a big fan, luckily Winnipeg as far as i know doesn't use TM they had a diffrent one. As for Borts comment, Remeber they play bigger shows here in canada and that means no general addmission in most cases

Hm, all the big shows I have been to have had general admission.
That's how it works here too. Venues are controlled by a certain agency...I've never heard of anyone selling some tickets through ticketbastard and then some a different way. Delta Center and Bricks use Ticketmaster, and that's it in Utah. Everyone else uses Smithstix.
Whats annoying me now is that bands (not as good as olp) keep playing clubs. And being (only slightly) underage, I can't see them. I hate that sooo much.
....Yup that was random.
I am curious to know though if its the band/manager/promoter...whatever choice to auction the tickets or is it purely up to ticketmaster?

I agree! The first 3 threads I clicked on were pretty much the same thing even though they had totally different titles. Anyway, no sense complianing as it seems we've gotten back on topic.
I think OLP (and others) should make a stand against this. As a few people said, music is not just for rich people and auctioning off tickets would make it impossible (or next to it) for average income people to go to concerts. Ticketmaster said they were doing this to avoid scalpers. I can see how it would cut down on the number of scalpers, but I certainly can not see how TM would make any case against whatever scalpers would be left as they would be "scalping" tickets themselves
Remember that petition to get OLP to play in the UK? Well there's a similar thing going to speak out against this issue (I think it may actually be hosted by the same site) It's at http://www.petitiononline.com/Tkmaster/petition.html

May I just say that regardless of the Ticketmaster issue... comparing the fact that your disposable income doesn't buy as many concert tickets as it used to is hardly the same as people starving, being tortured, not having basic medical care and dying.
Perspective is needed when you start making those comparisons.
