Ticketmaster... something worth OLP fighting for?

Post by Flea21212 »

OLP fought against all this war bullcrap a few months ago and knew that they weren't going to be able to stop it no matter what they did, and it's great that they were able to voice there opinions about the matter.

However, now that, that whole thing is over, why don't they stand up for their fans and fight ticketmaster. Recent new from ticketmaster is that they will now be auctioning off it's best seats... in order to compete with scalpers, and brokers. So now in order to see an OLP concert (if the band complys, and if there is reserved seating) you could be paying up to a few hundred dollars.

"The tickets are worth what they're worth," said John Pleasants, Ticketmaster's president and chief executive. "If somebody wants to charge $50 for a ticket, but it's actually worth $1,000 on eBay, the ticket's worth $1,000. I think more and more, our clients — the promoters, the clients in the buildings and the bands themselves — are saying to themselves, `Maybe that money should be coming to me instead of Bob the Broker.' "

I guess as a fan of OLP for years and buy all there cd's and attending as many concerts as possible I'd like to see them among other bands stand up and support the fans.

I actually just discussed this in my business class. I find it terrible rediculous.

Our Lady peace can easily get a bunch of canadian bands to like agree not give any tickets to ticketmaster or something... or maybe i'm just stupid. But that would be cool.

I think ticketmaster sucks for doing this, but:

a) since when has raine maida started caring about his die hard fans again.

b) even if he does... if anyone is going to pay a couple hundred dollars for a good seat, chances are they're a big fan in the first place.

Or someone that has rich parents.... big fans will usually just say "I've seen this band live 500 times already, I'll sit in the back"

God, I cannot tell you how pissed I will be if this goes through. Sure, the band DESERVES that money. But ya know what, me and about 1000 other huge fans cannot afford to do that...how bout never?? Since when is music for rich people? Last I checked, it was supposed to be for everyone. If ANY of the bands I like do this, I swear to God I'll throw out their cds.

This is the one time I think I may agree with something good charlotte did. They did the opposite. They let some car company sponsor them so they could lower ticket prices...That may be selling out slightly but I think they had the right intentions for their fans

I wouldnt mind a band being sponsored (to lower prices) by a major company as long as it didnt compromise the creavtivity or the integrity of the band. All the major bands/singers do it overseas. Its just taboo in america!!

exactly

no offense to anyone, but OLP are selling out
if they were a real band they would still be playing songs like they played earlier in their career ( naveed-clumsy days)

gravity is their worst album, too mainstream
mainstream stuff sucks (nickelback,creed,etc...)

all they want is the radio hits

maybe they're trying to... and failing bacause of gravity's quality. Also, I think they're trying to draw in new pop-music fans, hense they play their new pop-music.

but that's enough band bashing for me. i've been doing way to much of this lately.

Can't we have one freaking post where we don't Bash the Gravity album and OLP selling out? God I'm so sick of it. So you didn't like that album stick to the freaking topic.

i'm pretty sure that's following the topic. It was following up my first statement as to why myself and others think olp wouldnt want to take a stand against ticketmaster.

you cant expect everyone to agree with you, a negative response to your topic is still a "thought/oppinion" about it.

most olp shows are in general admission standing room only venues, though, (at least the ones ive been to where they were the headliners), so the raising prices for the better seats wont really make a difference...

well, i guess thats the case in the states

I'm not saying particularly for OLP shows. I mean in general will they or should they stand up for fans of all music. And say this is wrong you can't do this.

Just as Pearl Jam tried to do. To me if they can voice an opionion about a war why not fight for your own people your own fans.

Cos in some way or another it's going to affect them... If you have to pay $120 for one ticket to see a Radiohead concert, are you really going to have enough money left over to also see OLP later in the year.

also: the Bills just got Lawyer Milloy, gonna be a good game this weekend

yeah, artists should stand up against that.... i think anything much more than $20 is overpriced for a ticket personally.
