All I'm saying is that recognition and money are not one and the same when making an album. They do go hand in hand, but the difference is in the motivation. An artist that produces music for recognition may not give a flying fuck about how much money he makes, rather how many people he reaches. Gravity was simpler for a bunch of reasons which will influence its intricacy as a musical product......are we to assume that they did it just for the money?........That they said "fuck it........lets make a shitload" and lose all respect from our older fans???

I just can't see that............the album is disappointing in some regards which I would like to discuss, but to say OLP sacrificed who they are, especically after 4 labourious efforts, just to make more money is a weak assertion. I have problems with OLP's choices as artists, not as con-men.

They don't need more money. They've had a steadily successful career for almost 10 years now.

Raine certainly doesn't need more money. His household's got two huge paycheques coming in.

And I'll say it again. I don't think OLP made Gravity for money. They made it to finally gain some recognition outside of Detroit in America. They are huge in Canada, and that's great, and I think they wanted to expand their fanbase in America, so they came out with Gravity. Now, if they made Gravity and had like three complex songs on it, I wouldn't have a problem with Gravity.

To me, Gravity is just a tease. It's a good cd, but nothing spectacular. When I listened to it, I waited to hear when the CD broke out and became amazing. Some songs on that CD had potential to be absolutely amazing, and it fell short. It sounds like if they spent some more time with post production on it, and added the strings to the songs at the end of the cd, it would have been great. But as they left it, Gravity was nothing more than a decent CD.

And I just want to make it clear that my resentment in Gravity is what I just said. Don't read into it. I feel that if OLP put more effort into their songs on there, it could have been great. It wouldn't be Happiness or Spiritual Machines, but it would have been great. I am not resentful at the band because of all the little kids that flocked to their shows. Sure, it wasn't exactly pleasant to have little kids constantly going crowd surfing, but it was perfectly fine by me. I just wish they would have finished Gravity. To me, it's just an incomplete work.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

So, Alan. You think OLP made Gravity for money? Come on, man. Have a little faith. I really doubt OLP would do something like that. Quit bashing the band. I'm locking this damn thread.

I think they did it to get more famous in the USA with a more mainstream type of sound. That = money...

There's no reason to lock the thread.

potato: No one will hate you for having a negative opinion on OLP. Lots of people have negative opinions on them. Just as long as you keep your opinion clean, it's all good. :)

I hate to break it to you guys, but the band still hasn't made any money off Naveed yet and that CD was released almost 10years ago. I can also go on record as sasying they don't care about being number one or what have you.

You seem to think OLP are rolling in the dough. Granted they aren't struggling like say we are, but they are by no means Uber rich as you say. They make enough to live comfortably, and still do what they love(make music) but I highly doubt they are MILLIONIARES..

Even if OLP(the band) made $1.00 off Gravity(in the USA) that would only be $500 thousand or so. Split that by about 5-7 members it is less then $100Grand each. Yeah that is supper rich. And you aren't even talking about record company advances, videos, managers, crew members, lawyers etc. That is why they tour alot. No band makes money off just CD's alone. It comes from mostly merchandising and touring.

As for some fans/lifelong fans not liking Gravity. It is unfair to say that just because afew dozen on the boards say that they feel that way-therefore every OLP fan out there feels that way. I know alot of people who liked Gravity. Some of them longtime diehard fans. SOme of them people who heard of them and didn't like their previous stuff. For most part they still have a huge fan base and following. Everyband loses some fans when they change, but they also gain fans.

It is also unfair to say that people who got into OLP from Gravity are all 15 year girls who scream for Raine. I met alot of older people digging this CD. I also met some teens who dig the music and it has nothing to do with looks.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

Reading all the negativity on this board, sometimes I make this generalization that a lot of people really dislike the direction OLP took with Gravity. However, I personally know people who love the stuff from Gravity and these are the same people who supposedly were obsessed with songs like "Clumsy" back in gr. 6.

Teenyboppers like Gravity? I have a cousin who is 14 who listened to bits and pieces of Gravity yet thought they were still "loud". On the other hand, my dad loves "Somewhere Out There". He's into classic rock like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones so he never really could handle songs like "Superman's Dead".

People have a right to express their opinion whether it's good or bad but to assume that a lot of other people feel that way...well, come on. Let's get real for a minute. Not everyone who has been with OLP since Naveed likes Gravity...but not everyone hates it, either.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along

We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong
