Why is everyone so negative about OLP lately?

This is for you, this is for us...

Like Clumsy didn't make the uber rich to begin with........

THis is just conjecture and bullshit. Seriously, if you really think they made Gravity for the money then why the hell are you fans........suggesting that was pretty low.

What seems more realistic?

OLP made Gravity for money and recognition or OLP made Gravity for its great artistic merit?

Don't try and lump recognition and money into the same category. I agree that they tried something simpler, easy to digest rock. It still is OLP but a new direction they thought would help the band get through rough times........and it damn well succeeded despite many angry fans crying foul over the change (some of which are good points)...........but to say you are a fan and then say they only made the album for money which they already have enough of is pretty sad to hear.

I agree that it isn't artistically their pinnacle album. But what did they say.....stripped down, back to basics rock.....and that's exactly what it is. OLP tried to reach other fans with a simpler approach........if that's money grubbing to you then fine.........but I'd love to hear you say that to Our Lady Peace's face.

OK, let's use somg logic here.

You agree with me that OLP made Gravity for some recognition, and to have their music reach new fans. When a band makes an album to gain recognition, what do you think happens? Their sales go way up. It goes hand in hand.

And I am not saying that is why they released the cd. I just wanted to throw the point out there that Gravity wasn't made for any other reason but to expand their fan base. Just look at the obvious facts. Their music took a dramatic drop in musical ability, complexity, deep lyrics, and vocal talent/inflections. They take away everything that makes them unique and it makes them an easier to access band, which makes them more money. It's logic.

So Matt, please stop being a jerk. Even though you disagree with Dan, you just agreed with him. There's no reason to take it out on me, because that isn't what I believe. I just use my mind. One thing leads to another.

Exactly, Matt.

We may not like it, but they are taking a different direction, and it was a big risk. Look at the number of fans they lost, doing what they want.

As Matt said, they did this (partly) to get through rough times. The band was planning on "taking a break". Then they decided to visit mister Rock. If not for him, there may not be an OLP at all. Some may prefer that to the new direction, but I don't.

He wasn't being a jerk, man. He was just giving his opinion. He didn't agree completely with Dan. He doesn't think it's about the money, even if they do go hand in hand.

I am glad they're still a band, but what happened with these rough times we speak of? Mike leaves the band because of "artistic differences" and Jamie leaves for the same reason. Then after that, a decent-at-best commonplace rock record is released.

I don't know, I am glad they released the album because I got to see them play a bunch of times and all, but this album caused all you Mike Turner worshippers a great loss.

Flip the roles. If I said what he did, I'd have had someone up my ass.

They were having differences before Rock, but I think Rock's input pushed Mike and Jamie a bit to leave.

Yeah, it is a great loss. I just hope the rumours about Mike and Jamie working together were true. Jeebus, that would be awesome.

actually..everyone's like bein crappy 2 dan...i agreed with him and although i'm a newbie at this site it's like..i'm a hardcore olp fan...and because i have opinions different than yours i don't think it makes me any less of a fan matt. and i heard an interview with olp..i searched olp on real player and it had an inteview with raine and he's like we made live because it's a lot cheaper to make live albums! or sumthing ... $ is obviously on their mind..and i really don't care if they're in for the money cuz their music is uber awesome none the less. yeah, well maybe i'm wrong...atleast that's what i thought, maybe i'm wrong. I actually think it's a little bit of both. they want money for what they've done but they're still appreciative for their fans that supported them when they were nothing..idk..that's how i would be if i was in a band. too bad i'm not..too bad i'm just a fan with a thought matt...

I've said it before... I'll say it again.. Tell the band some of this. Tell it to their faces, they should at least know that this is what most/some of their longtime fans think.

Then, if they don't give a shit, we can start going yadda yadda yadda they don't care about their fans.

Or something :freak:

The band is doing this for themselves. I'd rather see them doing what they want than just doing the same stuff over and over again just because it's what we want.

No!

I just want to see/read it. See if that's what it says, or if it could be interpreted differently. It might have something to do with them wanting out of thier contract with Sony.
