Why is everyone so negative about OLP lately?

Very true, I'll concede that to ya. By the way, if you like fun garage rock bands like The White Stripes, you should check out The Von Bondies and The Dirtbombs. Some of the most fun music I've heard in my life. Mick Collins' is Jesus with a guitar.

another point too is that they don't need to have the exact song down. Keep the same lyrics or the basic lyrics to a song and throw in made up lyrics and/or alternative music. They never really alter the way a song sounds live. I think a good example of the times they've ever done this is when they would do Carnival/teardrop, and the piano version of Julia. It hasn't happened in 2 tours.

OTIF is post-Gravity, but pre-WTSOYF (assuming that's the name they keep for album #6).

hmmm well you people all know what side of the debate i'm on, but i would like to point out that i believe the reason OLP play down tuned to complement Raines voice better, i learned it in my guitar class a long time ago, plus down tuning is just the norm for most Alt-Rock

Yeah. It's just standard tuning, down a step lower for Raine's voice.

But the fact of the matter is their tour for the past 14 months their concerts have been one calculated affair. Like I keep saying, it's not hard to play normal music on a rotation. It's not asking for something amazingly difficult, it's asking for OLP to do what every other band does. Play something else besides the same 19 songs. Yeah, that isn't asking too much. They have 54 recorded songs, plus the new stuff, and yet it's been the same 25 songs for the past year. Tell me why I shouldn't want some variety.

I am going to be a real BITCH now. Just like you guys said there are 5 songs off gravity as in comparison to 2 songs off every other cd-that is why the live CD is mostly gravity songs. Any sane person will tell you that when you say something is mostly, it means whole, not part by part. I said that they have done 6-7 songs since gravity. DOne as in concert. I never said Recorded. You were the ones who interpeted that way.

anyway if you guys dislike OLP's show so much now don't go. Simple as that. Don't go. BTW ALAN. Steve knows how to play BLISTER> It was Mike E. who didn't know the song. Stop balming Steve for everything you guys seem to dislike with OLP now.

I don't know what bands you guys speak off that do different songs. Most bands, or alarge percent do the same songs with a bit thrown in here and there. I have seen probably over 2000 bands live (from unsigned, to signed to major label-etc. in my live) None of them really did anything different .

Also in Cleveland Raine sang Birdman differently. AS I said if you dislike the live shows now don't go. Nobody is forcing you to go. That is your choice.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

She stalks the band.

OK Gail. The only time I spoke to RAINE about this, he said STEVE didn't know how to play the song. So let me think here, if the singer of the band says the lead guitarist doesn't know how to play the song yet, am I wrong in believing that Steve was the one that didn't know how to play the song? I like Steve, I like him more than Mike Turner, so don't go running your mouth at me, I didn't like you the first time you were on the board, and I am not going to like you now, even if you have a new name and no one was supposed to pick up on the fact that it was you.

I am sorry if I don't have the privledge of getting on guest lists like you do. I pay to see shows, and they aren't exactly cheap. I went to different places in the US to see OLP and I got the same songs all the time. I wasn't allowed to go to concerts until very recently because my parents were overprotective, therefore, I wasn't able to go around and see every song live like you have. I don't talk to you, so don't talk to me. The end.

Gail... since I seem to value what you say a lil more than most...

Does the band know about what we've been talking about for the past 18 pages? Do they know how we feel about the band? their live sets? etc...

The feeling is mutual. I don't like you either. I don't like alot of people, but I still talk to them with respect.

As for stalking the band. I don't stalk the band. there are a bunch of us who goes to see the band. If you call me a stalker then every one of you on here who see the band and meet them is a stalker.

I pay for shows also-so don't go running your mouth. I shelled out alot of money to see OLP.

I was thinking last night. Just from seeing OLP in NYC and surrounding areas I saw alot of songs. The only ones I wouldn't of seen are the new ones now, and Dirty WALLS. It has nothing to so with going all over. It is cause I have been seeing OLP for years now.

I spoke with Steve and Mike E. last year and they told me that Steve knew Blister and Mike didn't. This was in August of last year. Plus they just don't want to do that song. I asked them(Raine and Mike Turner) in 2001, and they said it wouldn't be in the set.

As I said I don't like you either. You asked how did I know about Blister and I told you.

If it makes you guys happy I will ask the band what they think of some people not liking the new direction. I can almost tell you what they are going to say. They are no different then the 100's of other bands that have done the same thing. This is nothing new.

Someone said (I'm pretty sure it was Alan..) that obviously OLP don't care about their fans because they don't change their setlist enough. They don't care about their fans because they play the same songs a lot? do you think they play the same singles over again because they like to? I know if I was in a band I'd get pretty sick of it... The point is the whole reason they do it is probably because they want to make the fans happy. A lot of people on this board travel everywhere to see them but the majority of people (myself included) only get to see them once a tour, and It's the majority their trying to please. I only saw them once this year, And while I wish they had played theif or Annie or Hello Oskar I think Id've been pretty disapointed if they'd left any of the ones they had played (except for maybe the new ones they had to play) out. No, it's not a hard thing to ask for them to put in some uncommon ones for their older, or for their hardcore fans, but maybe they don't know how many people are asking it, or they think that they'd be making more people happy to stick with the big singles. Sure Alkaline Trio and others might give more variety and you like that.. but if, as you said, they only have four singles, than how many people there are only going to know the singles? Our Lady Peace plays a lot of the same singles because they think it's what people know, and while it would be great for them to change their setlist a little more, It doesn't make them a bad band because they don't

OK, Gail, let's drop it, there's no point in fighting. I'll never meet, you, and this is text, it's stupid.

AnnieDreams, who are you? I didn't say OLP doesn't care about their fans. I said they don't care as much as other bands that are just as popular as they are. I'll keep saying this over and over again, I don't go to concerts just to hear singles. It's not like I am asking for much, I am asking for variety. Other bands that play venues of the same size as OLP, or larger, are able to play requests and different shows nearly everynight. Why can't OLP do it? Just because they've released 3-5 songs off each album doesn't mean that is all I want to hear at their lives shows. I want something more. Besides the Gravity songs, the last tour they went on, the only non-singles I heard were Are You Sad and Neon Crossing. Six shows, and two non-single songs. If they only want to play two songs that aren't singles per show, more power to them, at least rotate different songs in there. They have quite a bit of non-single songs that they could occasionally throw in the set once in a while, I wouldn't mind hearing them for once. I've said this 10 times before, yet I keep having to say this over and over again. Get the hint, I want variety.

At least I got one show of songs I never thought I would hear. I miss hearing If You Believe, Car Crash, and Middle Of Yesterday. That was a fucking spectacular show. It's sad to think that my first OLP show will be my best one, but whatever. Apparently I am not allowed to want variety in their setlist.
