I just finished writing a song inspired by the blackout. It's called 'a day when time stands still'. The message of the song is that if we can all somehow detatch ourselves from our routine and are left with nothing but ourselves and eachother, we'll be all right, and might be better off than we were before. So in some ways it's a hopeful song but at the same time it's about how life commands us rather than us commanding life.

Everyone in my family lost power except me. That includes my aunts, uncles and grandmother. Thankfully my sister wasn't caught on the subway when the power went out.

I feigned overworrying, but mostly I called everyone to say "ha, I have power and you don't."

It'll be interesting to see where this actually started...
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

i hope it started in canada, it's kind of a good feeling to know that we could just flick a switch up here and it would cripple the entire northeast of the u.s.

I heard it either started in Manhatten or the US side of Niagra Falls...

The Manhatten one was supposed to be some fire, and the Niagra one apparently was struck by lightning.

Either way, the main reason is that everyone has been using way too much electricity. All it took was one small failure to take down the whole over-used grid.

My mom was really annoying. She kept insisting that it was a terrorist attack.

Me: If it was a terrorist attack, they would have done something by now, before the problem has a chance to be fixed. They would have attacked while everyone was vulnerable.
Mom: Not necessarily.
Me: So what? They're just turning off the lights in a seemingly random but large area?
Mom: They're just going to do stuff like this.
Me: Why? What could they possibly gain?
Mom: huff *walks away*

The news I am watching says the whole thing started from two different places. In New York, the Niagra power plant set on fire. Two seconds later (this is a literal time frame too), two lines in Cleveland and went out. Currents tried to travel the wrong way down the powerlines turning power off in Canada. The power from the rest of the stations had two different places to give power to at practically the same time, causing the blackout. At least that's what methinks.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

I just wish it had lasted longer. At least a couple of days. I mean, the lack of electronics (which I basically live on) sucked. But the idea of that huge chunk of the world without electricity. Finding out how extremely dependant we are. People being shoved back in time to before our electric wonders. Mankind (temporarily) completely shut down by the very things we birthed. Mmm... Sweet, sweet irony.

Wonders, Robert, or blunders?

That was implied by what I said.

Implied, Robert, or implode?

I told my mom something along those lines yesterday, but she just gave me a weird look. I guess I'm weird for wanting to try life without electricity. :freak:

I wish there wasn't electricity. Sigh...

After I found out how wide-spread it was, I had this extreme urge to call the local radio stations and request "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" by REM. Hehe...
