Why is everyone so negative about OLP lately?

This is for you, this is for us...

Clumsyboy wrote:the reason why i am losing faith in olp is because the complete lack of effort and creativity going into their music now, It's very basic and common sounding. And that's not the music i like, otherwise i would go out and get american hi-fi or three doors down. And i'm tired of people using this simple is good crap, simple IS good in some cases, but the artistry still has to be there, it has to be simple while still stimulating. Maybe the reason lots of us are so angry lately is because maybe like true fans, we truly loved olp, and thought they were capable of so much more, maybe we were wrong, but i won't settle for a sub-par effort or sub-par music. OLP isn't mettalica or led zep, they're not the strokes either, nor SOAD, dispite what raine might wish, so quit idolizing them and molding yourself after them, they should go out and make a OLP record, and go into that studio and work damn hard for a very long time, steve should give it his all, not stick to basic poppy riff, if they have the best drummer out there for fucks sake don't tell him to play like a drum machine. And for gods sake if you have a talented lyricist with a unique voice don't bring him down to the level of the ignornat masses so they understand. I think raine has just done what he vowed he never would, he's making his band become entertainers, and hit makers, instead of musicians, wich breaks my heart. DOn't getthis the wrong way, it's my faith in the band that has made me so skeptical, i know what tey can do, and gravity is not it. I have faith......just not blind faith

PS i'm hopeful for the new album, and the music seems better so far

It's time to enjoy the music again.

Give me some to enjoy.

you want 100% pro-OLP go to the CC.
You want actual discussion about the band and it's future, stay here.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

new rule for everyone lets not tell people "if you dont like it then leave", i think if people want to leave then they will do so on their own account.

but jim is right, there are two sides and you have to accept both.

"I used to walk and scream
I used to walk and scream
At the top of my lungs
Like a diamond in a ring
Of the song you love to sing
When we lost control

Now, I'm walking in circles
Walking in circles"

We have old OLP expectations for the new OLP band. They've gained a large fanbase of the teenybopper teens, realize this, and feel they don't have to put on as good a show. Most of the new fans want to see Raine on the cover of magazines, want wall posters, want to mouth lyrics to somewhere out there in concert. So the band put on things like Raine holding the microphone cord, repetitive solos, and etched in stone setlists, because they face a crowd majority of people that want that. Plus they are touring constantly and writing new music in between venues. There isn't much time for change, or to practice a new cover, or get the whole band in sync for the next show. It's just too much extra effort for their new audience. They still have their old fans in mind, but want to appeal to both audiences. Maybe their next album will redeem them or incorporate us bitter elders. Also when I see them in concert, I see the old Raine, maybe if it's only for a second. Their music still is important to me, maybe not as much, even though OUR Lady Peace may be turning into THEIR Lady Peace.

P.S. I made more mistakes then a blind painter, the edit button is genius.

Edmonton. :)

BTW, I was at the CC a few weeks ago and there was a huge debate on Gravity. It's not as pro-OLP as some may say.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

I disagree with this, altho it's your opinon and an opinon cant be wrong, but in my opinon I don't think OLP are really bothered about appealing to there new fans nor the elder fans. I think they are just doing what they want to do and are experimenting by trying the simple approach.

They experimented with the simple approach with Gravity. That was fine and dandy. I liked some of the stuff on there, some of it I hated. I think it's about time OLP experiments with the "good music" approach. Good lyrics, good music, spontenaity. It's been done before, it can be done again.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

experimentation is something that can be a long-going or a time taking process.. gravity might just be a baby step. the new album the next and the albums beyond that.. a continuation of it all.. that is, if they like the direction still if they like how things are going still.. who knows whats gonna happen in the future
go fuck yourself.
