Why is everyone so negative about OLP lately?

Don't want this to come across the wrong way but I think what Matt is trying to say is he's fed up of seeing the same thing posted over and over. Yes people are and should be entitled to they're own opinon but it just seems to have become the same negative messages over and over by the same people.

blink182 songs don't all sound the same
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

the reason why i am losing faith in olp is because the complete lack of effort and creativity going into their music now, It's very basic and common sounding. And that's not the music i like, otherwise i would go out and get american hi-fi or three doors down. And i'm tired of people using this simple is good crap, simple IS good in some cases, but the artistry still has to be there, it has to be simple while still stimulating. Maybe the reason lots of us are so angry lately is because maybe like true fans, we truly loved olp, and thought they were capable of so much more, maybe we were wrong, but i won't settle for a sub-par effort or sub-par music. OLP isn't mettalica or led zep, they're not the strokes either, nor SOAD, dispite what raine might wish, so quit idolizing them and molding yourself after them, they should go out and make a OLP record, and go into that studio and work damn hard for a very long time, steve should give it his all, not stick to basic poppy riff, if they have the best drummer out there for fucks sake don't tell him to play like a drum machine. And for gods sake if you have a talented lyricist with a unique voice don't bring him down to the level of the ignornat masses so they understand. I think raine has just done what he vowed he never would, he's making his band become entertainers, and hit makers, instead of musicians, wich breaks my heart. DOn't getthis the wrong way, it's my faith in the band that has made me so skeptical, i know what tey can do, and gravity is not it. I have faith......just not blind faith

PS i'm hopeful for the new album, and the music seems better so far

The last few have. I remember a year ago or so, I turned on the TV to see a new Blink-182 and I was thinking "This song sounds like another song from them..." I have completely lost track of song titles seeing how I can't tell the difference anymore. But that's just my opinion.

So are "true" fans of OLP Gravity-haters? I LOVE all pre-Gravity albums but I liked Gravity as well. This might sound like I'm bragging but I guess I'm more accepting of any type of music since I was a pop fan long before I liked OLP and I was even into country when I was in junior high. I still like some pop considering it's not complete trash such as Britney Spears or Kelly Clarkson. So when OLP changed their sound to "mainstream", I wasn't totally upset over it. Yeah, I was surprised but I was also amazed at how they could change from different styles and themes without sounding completely horrible like when Nick Carter suddenely started playing guitar.

If they have lost any creativity (maybe they did, maybe they didn't)...I blame it on Bob Rock.

yep I agree esp. regarding Raine's lyrics. Although I do like gravity the lyrics are a disappointment.

People are so quick to blame Raine for the changes in OLP but you guys have to remember that Raine originally wrote more "intellectual" lyrics when he began to write for Gravity. It was brainless Bob who kept pushing him to the point where the lyrics were simple enough to understand and made Raine sick as well.

I still like Gravity but if anyone's to blame for the dramatic simplicity in OLP's lyrics, it's Bob. In a way, I think Raine was brainwashed in thinking that because Metalicca's one album became such a success, simplicity has become the key to making more people fans.

I'm not sure if this was directed at me, I hope I never gave the wrong impression. I never said Raine was to blame, I know the whole story with Rock making Raine rewrite lyrics coz they were to intellectual for what they were aiming to achieve. And I read Raine once saying he didn't like it at first because he thought he was just dumbing down and then he started to notice that the lyrics resembled those of which appeared on U2's Joshua Tree. I might be wrong so correct me if so because i havent heard much of U2's music to judge but is Raine maybe blinded by the fact he's a better lyricist than Bono?

Raine is NOT a better lyricist than Bono.......I'm an OLP junkie but even Raine himself probably knows deep down that Bono is amazing.

I just adore how blame for Gravity is all pushed on Bob Rock......OLP wasn't forced to do their album with him. No, no they weren't.

I made that post to everyone. It seems like so many people are blaming OLP for the changes but suddenly everyone forgot about Bob? :freak: I know that Raine is a big fan of U2, that's about it. I have listened to a lot of music from U2 but never took the time to listen to the lyrics so I'm not someone tp judge the complexity or simplicity of it.

Seriously  I have a headache now.......gone on VA-CA and I come back to the 'ol bashing. Guess I didn't miss the CM like i figured I would.

Maybe I'm wrong to put all the blame on Bob. OLP does not consist of little kids. They made their decision on their own. I'm just saying Bob was a great influence on where they ended up. But I agree...I'm sick of blaming people on why this and that happens.

It's time to enjoy the music again.
