2003.07.22 Memorial Hall, Kansas City, KS Review

Post by curtman16 »

Although a small venue at Memorial Hall, OLP rocked the house. Preceeded by powerful performances by Shinedown and Seether, OLP came on and did not disappoint. Here is the setlist:

1. All For You
2. Do You Like It?
3. Superman's Dead
4. Innocent
5. Wipe That Smile Off Your Face
6. Walking In Circles
7. The Birdman
8. Clumsy
9. Somewhere Out There
10. Starseed

I might be missing one in there, but I haven't finished putting the recording on my computer yet. I thought Duncan was taking a hiatus, but he was there, doing his duncan thing with the bass.
During a part of Walking In Circles, the band circled around Jeremy and were rocking out, oblivious to the crowd, it was great.
This performance of The Birdman was the most amazing I have ever seen. Raine was grabbing all up on Steve during the first parts of it and Steve had an AMAZING guitar solo. I was almost brought to tears, it was that great.
Raine, as usual, was climbing what little stage equipment he could find and during starseed he went out to the upper section and people came up and were shaking his hand and grabbing him and this one girl interrupted the song by almost yanking Raine off the balcony.
Security was lax to practically non-exisistant. I could have brought anything I wanted in my pockets and they weren't going to search me. I recorded Seether and OLP and wish I would have recorded Shinedown, they were great, reminded me a lot of Soundgarden. Seether was also great and they closed by covering Nirvana's, You Know You're Right and my new girlfriend caught one of Seether's drumsticks.
Sadly, most of the crowd did not fill in until 3 Doors Down was scheduled to play. The noise was much too long to even attempt to record 3DD. 3DD finished what was a great concert experience by blowing the top off the place and saving only Loser out of there big hits to play in an encore.

I just with OLP would stop playing all those Gravity songs. Bring back the Wonderful Future.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

What about cameras? I'm going to see them in Knoxvile tomorrow, but I don't know if they are allowing cameras or not.

Yeah, they need to play songs off of Happiness.... or Spiritual Machines. Those cds get no respect when it comes to concert. I will gladly ditch One Man Army and Right Behind You for Blister, Waited, Lying Awake, The Wonderful Future, or If You Believe. Those are the four songs I would die to hear, and I've heard a whopping one live. God knows I've seen Do You Like It? four times. Meh.

I'd agree, I would have liked to see Neon Crossing again or The Wonderful Future, but that's what happens when they only have a 10 song setlist and you play new songs. They play the old hits and stuff off the new album, that's standard operating procedure. Now if they were headlining and had more like 20 to 25 songs to play with, we'd see more happiness and spiritual machines songs.
