OLP's best lyrical song?
I wonder what Raine would say if you showed him that quote...
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.
"It's a great thing when you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself. Makes you wonder what else you can do that you've forgotten about"

Guys do you understand that too much of anything will drive ya insane???
The bottom line is Raine can write any of us under the table metaphorically speaking or any other way imaginable... he's proven that point over and over and OVER again...
On Gravity they experimented with a different approach aaaaaaaaaaand, surprise surprise, some people like it and some don't... that's music and that's life, live with it... if you actually think your complaining that you don't like Gravity is gonna make Raine do what you want him to do think again... if you don't like it, don't listen to it... I'm sure OLP won't lose any sleep over it...

No one's complaining. We're just stating our opinions, and honestly a lot of ppl do not listen to Gravity, and those are the same people who are saying that they don't enjoy the simplistic methods that went into making Gravity. We all understand change, and experimentation.
I think the problem is that we know Raine is a better writer than what he showed on Gravity. We've seen his best stuff and for him to do what he did with his lyrics, it can be somewhat disappointing. It's like seeing your kid get A+ all year and then suddenly he wants to be a D student. It's difficult to watch.

maybe he wants to go to try the simplistic route and as a result.. gravity was the first one..
i mean.. think of it this way.. when you were all babies.. you took your first step.. you didnt sprint the 100 m in world record time.. you would take a few steps slowly until you go the hang of it and then eventually take off..
gravity was that first step.. it wasnt sweet, it wasnt perfect.. but its a step.. the new album will truly tell how everything goes from there

the band stabbed millions of fans in the back. i don't appreciate that. there would be no our lady peace without those fans. it was a shitty thing to do.
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

But *sigh* they're not making music for us. They're making it for themselves. Just like we don't have control over polititions, celebrities, etc. we don't have control over musicians. They wanted to try something new...we can't expect them to do what we want. If that were the case, I would have called up another Spiritual Machines or Naveed.

Woaa stettle down all they did is try something new. Bob Rock did the same thing with Metallica when he produced there album. All these "hard core" Metallica fans jumped ship because they didn't think there album was hard enough. All he did was bring out a different sound in the band. And to be honest with you he did a fucking good job. Have you ever seen Bob Rock work in the studio? Watch some of the clips frow where he works with Metallica it's really inspiring the guy doesn't tell them what to do he just has a different way of seeing things
Every OLP album I've listened to there has been at least one song where I've said...man that song has potential but it's just lacking something. For example "Hope" and "Blister" both those songs are real good, but they could be great.... they just lack that something. Bob rock doesn't let this happen just look at "Made of Steel" I hate that song it's my least favorite OLP song... but he brought that song together. They said they had sacked that song many times before finally retuning it to end up on the album that my friend is inspiring ... that they could take something that is crap and some how make it presentable
The problem is everyone here is to ignorant to look at the whole picture. Just becuase OLP changed there sound a little does not mean he left his fans behind. It means they're trying new stuff. If OLP does the same thing year after year after year it will become so reduent and boring you wont want to listen to it because it's something they've done before. They're changing there sound and growing as a band... they're playing music that can be performed live with out the use of recorded background music and overdubs. If you guys are to ignorant to realise this than I feel sorry for you cos you're missing something great.

blister was lacking something
and whatever bob rock did to made of steel was horrible...that is the song that could have the most potential on gravity in my opinion. Instead it is quite bland and straight foward. There was a lot of room for imagery in the song but Raine failed to use it.

I agree Raine does have excellent song writting skills and in Gravity he did not use that skill to the fullest. I think he was just trying new things and seeing if he liked it. Maybe for their next album he will go back to his old style but even if he doesn't I will still be a fan and go buy the cd as soon as it comes out.
