i could listen to not afraid all night long soley to hear the chorus melody.

at least part of the song is good.

i can't even say that much for most gravity songs.
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

oh yeah. i was going to say something else.

it doesn't matter if raine wanted to write straightforward and because he did what he set out to do, his lyrics then must be good. no. the lyrics are bad because i've heard them all a thousand times. "i crawled out from the pain of yesterday" and "i hate myself for begging" staind anyone? "i'm sorry i can't like i'm wasting too much time" default, mhmm. "just stop breaking my heart" 50 million songs. it's very easy to be straightforward but at the same time write fresh and original lyrics. lots of bands do it. on gravity, our lady peace did not. they recycled old boring lyrics and therefore they suck. the end.

^ Very good point. All of Gravity is very derivative.

The lyrics you listed are practically all from one song except the one from AFY. If you look at what Raine is trying to say they do fit the song quite nicley tho they are a bit weak.

You can go along to any OLP song pick out certain lyrics that by themselves will be horrible. Just look at the chorus from "Made to Heal" it's horrible, it's not even a chorus it's just three words drawn out. Like I said before... I straight foreward lyrics there meaning is what it is. You take a horrible lyric from another OLP song and some how it's a great one cos you annalyze it to death untill it means something.

All of the older songs have meaning and feeling behind them. Just because they don't slap you in the face with their meaning doesn't mean it's not there.

no, jackass, entire verses, entire choruses, and sometimes even entire songs are boring, recycled lyrics. i was just giving some prime examples. there are a few exceptions. the verses in all for you, the verses in sorry, and all of bring back the sun. that's like 8 minutes out of 45. suck much?

Thats pretty much what I was getting at before. There are only select parts of gravity that I actually take something from. As for the rest of it, I just kind of listen to it. I don't think into any of the lyrics because there is nothing to think into.

Who ever said you have to think into lyrics, or lyrics have to be obscure for them to be good?

I certainly didn't, so don't put words into my fucking mouth.
Exactly, when did I imply that the way you look into music has to mimic mine? I look into the lyrics because they are an important part of a song, in my opinion. It is my belief that in making them obscure, they are made better. Its not that Gravity's lyrics aren't good. They just aren't AS good as they could be.
You act like I'm fucking forcing my opinions on you.
Its not my fault that that is one of the reasons I got into Our Lady Peace. I've seen what they are capable of lyric-wise, and I hate that Gravity is what they have become.

no one fucktard. i very clearly said lots of bands write straight forward lyrics that are GOOD. our lady peace wrote straightforward lyrics that are BAD.
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

I gotta say that their lyrics were at their worst during Gravity... It may be because of simplicity, and the lack of substance or origniality but It's true

"I think sometimes the more ambiguous the lyric the better, because then it kind of washes with the music and it becomes this one piece," he says. "It's really weird because on ninety percent of the songs (the band) doesn't really know what I'm talking about, and no one's ever asked. I think they like the lyrics and, as most of our fans do, the interpret them in different ways. That's the beauty of music. That's why I got into music and started writing songs, and especially lyrics. With all the people I admired growing up you didn't feel like you were being hit over the head with 'This is what it's about.' You could take something personal from it." - Raine Maida
