ya they tend to bet better as the night goes... I remember seeing them in Buffalo in October and the first 4 songs were not up to par, then the broke into Naveed and they pulled it together

That's sweet as hell.....somebody needs to tell the guys to do "With Or Without You" on February 7th! haha and "Drive"

I knew I liked The Cars enough to get a hold of their Greatest Hits for some reason..

I don't think there's much chance of WOWY returning. Jer told us it had been retired when we asked them to play it. The consensus in the band was that it was crap the second time they played it, Steve said that it sounded 'like a car crash'.

jeeze I'd much rather hear them play one of their own songs rather than a cover. Screw learning other bands songs, why not work on your own so that way you don't have a generic set every show. Bring back songs like Julia, Carnival, Potato Girl and Middle of Yesterday instead of these stupid covers. Sure once in a while it might be cool to just break out in a song but don't make that song a staple.
From what it sounds like this tour seems to just be the American tour in bigger venues.... same songs, same "amazing guitar solos", same "cool new lyrics in front of songs"...
Now I know that us Canadians havint seen them live in years (unless you live near the border you probably are OLP deprived and anything sounds amazing to you) but I think even OLP owes it to their fans to do something special with their sets instead of just throw in a cover of a song into the encore...

I'll be seeing them in Rochester the day after the Canadian tour is over and I can probably right now give you the entire set that will be played on that day...
Does anyone see anything wrong with that?

I think they're treating the Canadians nicely with this tour, the setlist is extended a couple songs from what they played in the US. So you do get to hear another one of their songs, and a cover on top of that, and you're complaining.

Yes I am complaining, I'll give ya that, but what extra song are they throwing in? Our Time is Fading?
I'm sorry but the sets are becoming to predictable. When a person goes to a concert they shouldnt be able to tell their friends what songs are coming up next. You can almost set your watch top their shows now, since they do the same things during every show.
OLP has always prided themselves as an amazing live band, which they are, but as time goes on I'm finding that the generic set they're playing is really tarnishing they're label as an amazing live band.

And this Canadian tour is nothing like their last few. Take a look at the set list from they're 98 tour or their 2000 tour... it's like night and day compared to now...
Go look at the concert on Dec 11th 2000 in Toronto and compare it to Dec 13th in Montreal... that's the type of variance they need, and I don't think there's any reason they couldn't do that now.

I again will agree that I'm complaining, but as an OLP fan I'm starting to think that they just aren't putting as much into those live shows anymore. There's very little creativity, and its just somewhat disappointing.

hmm

If you look at the last few shows (not part of the canadian tour) you should see that they're putting new songs in the set list (like TWF and Stealing Babies)

Jer said they're working on EAJ too. ahh. either EAJ or MOY. Ask the Villanovians. They know.

I don't think it's that they're lacking creativity. I think it's more that Steve doesn't know all the songs yet. Give them some time. Steve's a talented guy. I'm sure if Steve was with the band since the beginning or Mike was still playing, they'd be changing the set list up.

Like I said, give them some time. I've been to 5 concerts this year, and every single one was a little different.
HARDCORE!!!

OMG. I can't believe I din't think fo you
until now because when I think on
a scale of one to ten you're like YWELVE.
No, seriously?

How is Steve able to learn another bands song in very little time, but not learn one of OLP's?
thats the premise of my entire argument really...
I hope the throw in TWF and EAJ or MOY, that would be great, but they havin't really done much to proove me wrong otherwise...

I went to 3 shows this year and of them there was only one difference, that being In Repair was put in place of Neon Crossing

There's a chance that they're choosing cover songs that Steve already plays.

As for OLP songs, a lot of them are damned hard to get right on, especially live. Steve's extremely talented, so I know he'll pick up whatever he needs to in time.

Oh, yeah, you're right. You went to three shows and got similar setlists. I guess that means more than the fact that they've added four songs (three if you don't count covers) during the past 15 concerts. And since Steve joined the band, he's learned 27 OLP songs and 3 covers. And With or Without You, they obviously didn't take the time to get it good, since it sounded like a car crash the second time they played it, so I doubt that took too much time away from when they could have been trying to work on one of their own songs.

OK, I for the life of me didn't know what song Drive was. So I just downloaded it. Dude, OLP's covering THAT song?!?!? I can't even begin to imagine what it sounds like. They had BETTER play this at Rochester, or it better surface in mp3 form or SOMETHING. I need to hear this. Hahah.

Steve could probably learn "drive" by the cars because it's got to be one of the easiest songs to play next to "in my life" by the Beatles. Now, i havent heard OLP's version but the cars version only uses C, Cmaj7, Am, Asus4(played 1/2step down). Not that OLP songs are all too difficult either but Steve plays lead not rythm- It's a little harder. I'd also assume that the rest of the band would have to re-teach themselves the other songs. It's not like they have all 5 albums memorized and are perfectly in harmony with one an other. It takes practice. Thats why set lists don't change too much.
