The song Life came out at a really awful time for me and that song got me thru a lot of sad days .. sometimes it made me sad or brought on tears and other times it made me feel like there's still hope .. the video still gives me shivers if I see it. Even with the song Innocent there's a couple of lines/lyrics that touch me and that I can relate too ..

Basically, no ones opinion on a song is right or wrong or fact .. it's simply their opinion. We don't have to agree with them .. as long as we know what that song means to US and what that song has done for US then that's all that matters. Screw what other people think :D

i know exactly what you mean. when i get angry or upset i have to put in spiritual machines and put on "life" in order to clam down. i did it this morning when i had a fight with my mom and it already proven useful during exam times.

sorry for causing quite the uproar with this topic... I was just wondering why so many ppl were dissing Innocent when I felt Life was the same type of song, a lot of the things in here have been intelligent, but there are always those who still find a way to ruin it.

OLP is obviously not a pop band. But think of this, if Gravity was their first album would all of you think they were only 1 album wonders? I personally think I would. Simply because Gravity sounds like a lot of other albums out there. Obviously we hear the difference cause we're all massive OLP fans and we dissect every lil think and pay attention to all the intricate moments in the songs. But to the average person, Gravity probably sounds just like every other album out there.
I think the future is bright for these guys though. This album got them the exposure they needed, and now they're probably a lot more confident when it comes time to write their next album. Not too mention the addition of Steve and Mike, who will definately make an impact, and probably change the way we listen to the band.
Every band has their "innocent", good bands know that it's only one song, and that one song doesnt mean anything.

the last two albums from our lady peace have been pop.

life was a great song because of the instrumental support on the track. putting a bagpipe synth in any song requires balls.

innocent is just a rehashed version of life. it's boring and contrived.

back to the poppy thing..
i think innocent is definately poppier, it has the whole catchy chorus thing.

imo, life was just a flop. not only did it not go over well commercially (in the US at least), but it's probably my least fav. olp song. i feel like it was meant to be poppy, but the attempt at poppyness was misdirected and it just came out crappy and cliche, losing not only musical value, (as what usually happens when something is made to be poppy), but commercial value as well.

it has a good message though.

I agree with a lot of the opinions in this thread but I just have to say that I think Innocent and Life are very similar. When I first heard Life I thought it was really poppy and it kind of got annoying to listen to. I didn't think Innocent was an 'annoying' song but it wasn't a great song either. I definitely like Life better but I think it's more poppy because of the instrumentals and.. well I don't really know how to explain it but the lyrics are poppier in my opinion. Especially the very beginning and the "she gets high, she gets lost..." part.

I don't know about that. I don't think I've heard Innocent on the radio once to date. When Life was out, it was on the radio very often. I think it all depends on where you live.

Innocent was played like 3 times on the modern rock station here and then they just completely stopped playing it.

I thought it was more like Raine didn't show it to the other guys because he didn't think it was a song for OLP.

thats exactly the point, he felt Innocent wasn't an OLP song based on its simplicity and quality. I think if anything its the "anti-OLP" song. If you listen to Naveed or Clumsy and then listen to Innocent it's like night and day. Now obviously they aren't going to stick to the same sound for 8 years but still it's almost like a totally different band...

Innocent used to get played out the ass over here. So did Life. I think Life is a better song though, I don't think Gravity is that amazing of a cd, and Innocent has too much of a feel good teen help vibe to it, even more than Life did. At least Life was a good kind of catchy....
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

And why is a feel good teen help vibe a bad thing? In today's messed up world teens need all the feel good vibes they can get and if it comes from music and from one of their favorite bands then that's a good thing, not something that should be looked at negatively.

i don't think Mike would have let Innocent appear on the album if he played on it. It just seems like the song trys to hard but I guess it does have a good message at least.
