i think innocent is poppier
now i did (though i still think it is just crap)
the lyrics are a bad nursery rhyme and the chorus is not exactly mind blowing.
on the other hand i don't find life bad at all and i wish they would put it back in the set.
old school CM'er 4 Life
it's pretty even, Innocent would be more rock if it wasn't for the chorus, but life has some cool alternative moments so......

"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good
"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911
"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good
I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.
"Hold on, hold on children, your mother and father are leaving, hold on, hold on children your best freind's parents are leaving, leaving,.......*AHHH*! " - Death From Above - Black History Month

Asking if you think something is good or not is actually a request for an opinion. So, if you ask for an opinion, then yell at someone for stating an opinion...
Am I missing a step here?

I didn't ask for an opinion .. I never bring up Gravity to begin with or create topics about Gravity or Our Lady Peace because of what I know will happen .. so yes, you're missing a step
Plus I wasn't yelling at anyone .. simply saying how it's impossible to have a good OLP conversation nowadays because people are too bitter

I'm not Joey.........you can talk to me.
I think Innocent's lyrics are actually quite insightful once you get under the seemingly glaring cliches. The song deals with a lot of society's demands and the pressure teenagers have to "be somebody"........The lines about Tina are particularly striking to me as Raine has a lot to say and does it very fast, without bullshitting or trying to make is sound too smart. He just says it. These are problems that a lot of younger people can relate to, and the how he builds into the chorus, saying that he remembers "all the the feelings and the day they stopped" is quite uplifting because he knows how you've been feeling. its not like other pop songs where someone just wrote it to play towards an audience..........with Raine he is very sincere, and I think that's what wins me over. The chorus is meant as an anthem.....and though it is simplistic, it says that no one can stand in our way, we will beat this, we will be ourselves and be happy even if we aren't now, because "we are all innocent".......... Sentimental??? yes........and I like it because Raine put his heart on his sleeve. Life is quite close in meaning.....also a great song in my books.

Life and Innocent are very similiar, and I'm not so sure how so many people can hate one and not the other. The lyrics are so similiar in messages, both are straight forward upbeat pop songs. I personally like them both, if I had to get rid of one it would be Innocent, but I don't consider it a bad song. And I believe if Life was on this album and a single everyone would hate it.
And about the whole SM art debate, I think everyone says that because its a lot deeper album. Many different layers of music, effects. Plus the more cryptic style lyrics on some songs. Or maybe it is because that cd was so good.

Yup, and they are valid. Its just another opinion. You either see it and feel it as being good, or you don't. You like Our Lady Peace and that's enough for me to feel some sort of comradery.....even if we don't feel the same about every song. Personal taste is great. I never like Car Crash, Story About 100 Aisles and Consequence of Laughing until some people gave me a new perspective on this board. Now I like them.
I errr, uhhh...(Matt loosens his collar uncomfortably)
but if I don't make it known that I've loved you all along.......

All i have to say is... if any members of the band could read that post right there, they would search you out and give you a big hug... thats exactly what OLP wants from their fans. Listen to the music, and if you like it, then value each song for your own reason, whether its the lyrics, the sound, the rythym, etc etc. You don't have to be complex and mysterious to be deep and meaningful, thats also very true. Always like music for the reasons you want, but dont diss anyones likes because of your dislikes... sounds like a rule to me

Yeah, I want Raine to hug me
But maybe shake his hand. I guess he kind of inspired me when i was going through a rough time that its okay to be down. I use to feel guilty and withdrawn, but now its like he went through the same thing and came out a winner even if he isn't perfect. i like it that Raine talks about life that way..........the imperfections. It makes life seem so great when you are able to understand those parts of yourself and use them to help your life instead of letting them drown you.
I think we should start a thread about what all the songs mean to us. I know a few songs from naveed are a little mysterious to me and would love to get some insight on them. Just a thought. Naveed is the "mystery" CD to me.
