Subways are awesome... I love seeing all kinds of different people together in one spot. It's very interesting.

I don't care for walking downtown
Crazy auto-car gonna mow me down
Look at all the people like cows in a herd
Well I like... BIRDS!

I've ridden the subway once. It smelled like urine and a bum was masterbating on there

Matt wrote:Your source sounds biased.........I mean just his tone. Could very well be true since I have no intellectual backround on this. But how does that influence the notion that subways are in fact clean despite Gm saying its not. Its seems to me that its people saying how dirty they are, from first hand accounts, or in movies..........like Predator 2.........that's where my opinions are formed, not by car companies. I see car companies influencing the masses by saying they "need" cars when really you don't, but because they are more convenient, affordable for most families, and more privatized, people will always naturally choose car over public transit. I am actually doing a study on transportation and environmental effects related to Geography this semester so I might be able to scrounge up some juicy info on your point. later subway lover!!!!

I never said subways are not dirty. I honestly would not ride one and I don't if I don't have to. The point is, that subways would be clean and more socially accepted if it wasn't for the marketing of cars in the fashion we see today. It has been engraved into our brains that cars represent "freedom" and social status. Public transportation has been painted as something for poor people and social outcasts. Ergo, society believes it and thus follows it so. Think of all the money that would have been saved and could have been used if there weren't so many roads, highways, parking lots, etc. That money could have been pumped into public transportation creating a much cleaner and friendlier atmosphere. I've been on the subways at Montreal and loved it. Our perception of subways is clouded, because we fail to realize how significant they actually could be.

Think about it, have you ever seen a car commercial where the car is stuck on a highway in heavy traffic? No. They are always on the side of some mountain with no other cars within 1000 miles.

I'm not saying we should get rid of cars. I love owning a car. However, it would be nice if we didn't have to rely on them 100%.
