jesus, have you been on a subway recently? they CAN be fast but usually they sit at a station for like 7 minutes. it's annoying as hell.

lol just had to say that.

i see rats all the time in the tracks of the subways :( ... eeewwwww... i swear if i ever saw them in the subway i'd cry

You read the subway?

I've ridden on it a lot. Cuz I've gone to NYC a lot. It cracks me up how everyone just sits there like :uh: No one talks or anything. And if there's a little kid making a lot of noise everyone gives it dirty looks.

i enjoy riding the subways in NYC so many beautiful people.

I swear out of the 20 times I have ridden in the past year I have gotten a new subway once. Some 20 new trains they added.

*sigh* What a sad misconception you all have of subways. Subways are great and there should be more of them. The reason why everyone thinks subways are bad is because car companies want you to buy cars instead. Thus creating a stigma with the subway, leaving only the lesser class still willing to ride it. If people didn't associate the sub with "dirt" and "crazy people", it would be the most popular form of transportation. I'm a big fan of public transportation. I think busses is the WORSE form. If it weren't for GM, we'd still have rail cars. If you are wondering what I mean by that, feel free to ask.. I'll tell you all about it.

What happens when you get on a subway? You share a space with people who you'll probably never see again. I think it means that everything we do in the world is really insignificant as a whole. We have meaningless relationships with people for the sake of having a lot of friends. I can totally relate to this now, actually. Think about it. An ordinary girl, an ordinary waist. She's just another girl, nothing really that great about her, she's just an excuse for someone to fool around with. Being with someone just for the sake of having the title of a boyfriend/girlfriend. I think it can also mean that on subways you never truly know where you're going unless you take it regularly. We go through the same shit again and again with people, and it finally ends when we can't take it anymore. We travel on a road that seems predictable, but it isn't until you go through the same things over and over, learning something new each time. Unless you've had experience with things, you're just another stupid teen who is unsure of their direction.

Please Corey, dispell these notions that I have that subways are "labrinyths of crime" and "festering with bums who live underground"..............I ride the subway rarely, but it never seemed all that bad, but not altogether pleasent either. My brother who goes it U of T downtown always said the crazy people were usually on buses, preaching sweet nothings or the apocalypse, old people sneezing every where, or some damn weirdo who just can't look in another direction. I like public transportation because of environmental factors(I am studying it in university) but am not sure how car companies are fueling my illusions??

Ok, well when GM was first starting up, all the major cities had Railway cars (like San Francisco). Everybody rode them and got to where they wanted to go and everybody loved them. Not just the "crazy people". GM wanted to make more money and wanted to use public transportation as a means of making it. GM convinced political officials that busses were far superior to railcars and were the thing of the future. In reality, busses are slower, much less energy efficient, and more expensive to maintain. GM didn't care about making things better, just making themselves richer.

No room for trains these days? Not true. The reason there is no room was because cities had to build more roads, highways, and parking lots which take up much more space than a traine would and accomplish not much more.

read:
http://www.trainweb.org/mts/ctc/ctc03.html

here's a quote from http://journal.maine.com/op-ed/rdyer/st ... isten.html :

Another example of giving in to special interests with money and influence can be seen all over the country, where trolley lines were torn up as the result of a criminal conspiracy (so determined by the courts) on the part of General Motors, Firestone Rubber, Standard Oil of California, and a few others who set up National City Lines which bought up the existing electric transit lines, removed the rails, and substituted GM busses running on Firestone Tires and fueled by Standard Oil gas and/or diesel. New Orleans and Philadelphia resisted these "raids". San Diego is in the process of throwing out busses as is Los Angeles and the cost is astounding. However, our elected leaders who see no reason to set any examples, or help to abandon these follies, knuckled under too because they were maneuvered by interests with money and bought influence. As with these other matters there were planners and thinkers around who knew what would happen, but they didn't have the bucks of General Motors who could buy anything from state and national legislators, not to mention city political machines.

Your source sounds biased.........I mean just his tone. Could very well be true since I have no intellectual backround on this. But how does that influence the notion that subways are in fact clean despite Gm saying its not. Its seems to me that its people saying how dirty they are, from first hand accounts, or in movies..........like Predator 2.........that's where my opinions are formed, not by car companies. I see car companies influencing the masses by saying they "need" cars when really you don't, but because they are more convenient, affordable for most families, and more privatized, people will always naturally choose car over public transit. I am actually doing a study on transportation and environmental effects related to Geography this semester so I might be able to scrounge up some juicy info on your point. later subway lover!!!!

Oh and Emily, i was wrong to call you poo. I meant it to be cute........but I guess it didn't come off very well. my ex girlfriend called me poohbear sometimes so that's where it stems from.............and her name was Emily........I guess the word just reflected back into my head.

actually he's probably right, in Japan where they don't have much room for everyone to own a car, they use tons of Subway, mass transit and when they do use cars they use small efficent ones :)
