Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd

Steve's guitar work in this track is as good as I've ever heard from him.... very moody stuff. Love the bass-line in the verse too.

Still hoping for a couple of fist pumping tracks.. but this stuff is definitely good.

With the success of Clumsy and the fact that OMA was a huge rock single there was a ton of hype with the Happiness.... release. I remember there were listening parties all over the country and they had the synched up radio show premiering the album.

I remember the old Clumsy Congress responding ...

I don't even hear Thief in Canada anymore... so yeah, the programmer definitely must be an OLP fan. The only pre-Gravity songs I ever hear on the radio or elsewhere in public are Naveed, Starseed, Clumsy and occasionally 4 AM. Never Superman's Dead though, I don't think that's tame enough for ...

What I saw only listed The Tragically Hip and K'naan (?god, I'm so out of the loop - who is this? ) as performers, it only said Raine would be making an appearance or something like that.

Canadian Rap Artist who's originally from Somalia. Really similar to K-OS in terms of his music. His track ...

Jack Singer's a great concert hall. The acoustics in there are second to none.. and it's just a really nice venue as a whole. Back in the day it used to house the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (it still might.... i'm not sure to be honest).

Man, I remember when OLP played on the SAIT campus in ...

Crazy. I never thought I'd hear OLP cover that track.

It's the chorus from "Kids" by MGMT

I peaked at #4 in Regina on our modern rock station, and it's fallen from there now, down to 10 or something.

I don't see The End doing much better. Maybe a little. It has a bit more energy, toward the end. I think Monkey Brains or White Flags would have done much better on rock stations .

It ...

Somewhere Out There is in a league of it's own in the States. Clumsy got okay airplay and Superman's Dead not as much, but Somewhere Out There was close to a top 40 overall hit. Clumsy just hit #5 on the modern rock charts.

Yeah, that's what I thought too (but I never lived in the States so I ...

That's tough. Clumsy was the first track that really opened them up to mainstream radio audience. That said, SD was a massive hit too... I think it spent something stupid like 5 weeks at #1 on the Muchmusic Countdown (which was unheard of at the time).

This is a total cop-out but there really ...

Why does OLP call themselves a performance-based band if they play the same sets for months at a time, only to switch it up by adding a song or two for a couple of months (then going back to the original set)? Just curious.

It frustrates me to no end that they are playing the same set over and ...

I hated the track when I first heard it...but I love the studio version of it. It seems like a lot of the OLP tracks have this special energy when they are being played live.. but then it kind of gets lost in the studio (see All You Did, Dreamland...etc). This is the exact opposite of that in my ...

I only really have two complaints with this album.

1. I really wish they didn't release AYD as the lead single. It's such a poor representation of what this album is.

2. It's too damn short!!

Other than that.... it's sounding pretty darn good. We've always seen Steve shred on the live ...

Sweeet. Man those Amazon clips are killer. It's definitley a different record from anything we've heard before... but it's strong as hell in my opinion.

Escape Artist sounds so good. Am I the only one who's hearing the band singing 'You're The Ghost..."?

I was a bit skeptical about this album ...

As an aside, AYD in Regina is at #5 for rock, and is still rising. So I'm sure it's doing reasonably well in other Canadian places as well.

#4 on Canadian Rock Charts (Green Day, Nickelback and Billy Talent are ahead of them for now..) and top 20 in terms of national airplay (the black eyed ...

I'll never understand why SM wasn't massive. The only thing I can think of is that just prior to SM being released, there was a surge of pop acts (i.e. Britney, Christina, etc.) and hip-hop acts (i.e. Eminem, Outkast, etc.) that put rock music in general on the backburner . SM was one of the most ...

I agree. I think OLP writes these "poppy" singles just because Innocent and SOT were successful and, therefore, they believe any "poppy" song that they come up with will be successful. The truth is that Gravity was riding off of the success of four "amazing" records and had a huge promotional back ...

Well I have no doubt it will do pretty good in Canada . If it continues this success in the US, it will be quite the accomplishment.

I know we only saw like 3 seconds of the song during the Etalk daily show, but I was already worried. Something about it just didn't seem right. It definitely feels unnaturally slowed down, which hurts.

Also, I know I've said this like one hundred times already, but the backing vocals depress me ...
