getting back to the piercing question, my advice is to just do it and not tell mom in advance. worked for me. by the time she notices it it'll be too late to do anything about it.

I think I can join this thread now.

Although I don't want to go back and read too much of it for fear of spoilers.

I also feel somewhat out of place for not ...

Yeah I screwed up. What I meant was the use of the opposable thumb as a tool. As well, I said "intelligence." We have no real way of knowing when we actually began 'thinking' like humans do today... brain size does not indicate intelligence levels.

As for the rest, I'm still thinking my way ...

My comments were not directed to Goodkind's purpose for writing the book, the concepts behind it, or any commentary he may or may not be making. They are directed at the writing structure of the book. Which was bad. For the reasons I've already stated.

Example to illustrate the difference: Atlas ...

Actually, from what I've read, the global warming theory predicts that precipitation will increase before it decreases.
But whether that warming is entirely natural or the result of human intervention is a different topic.

I personally think it's more natural than anything.

Actually, the minimum time a woman needs to spend with her kid is 9 months (and less, with technology the way it is). All the other stuff is supplementary and not necessary. The fact is in our society women are expected to care for their kids, but I don't see why 50% of the population should be held ...

Nobody denies that other countries are rights violators. I think everybody on this board would agree to that. However, the States is commiting these violations NOW, and thus should be subject to scrutiny.
And if other countries are commiting atrocities that you (or others) would like to comment on ...

Langshaw's boyfriend, Raul Umana, 28, also pleaded no-contest to three felony counts of attempted extortion and three felony counts of sending threatening letters. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed that Umana would receive no more than two years in state prison.

Langshaw pleaded no ...

For those of you who think that us Canadians are anti-American, I'd like to point out that most of us are more anti-human and civil rights violations than anything. It just happens that the American government is propagating many of them right now - from firing upon a peaceful protest in Iraq (note ...

Firstly, you can't judge all the books by one... The plotline in Wizard's First Rule is quite straight forward, which makes sense as it was his first novel.

I found the characterization quite good. I thoroughly enjoyed Zedd in particular. I also felt quite close to the characters. I don't know ...

Contrary to what somebody wrote, Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels are just plain bad. The characterization is awful, the writing is unrealistic. It's nearly impossible to feel close to any of the characters. Plot is adequate, but barely.
I've only read the first book, but that was enough for ...

To begin, there is no anthropological evidence to suggest that the human opposable thumb evolved before intelligence. At this point, anthropologists simply don't know which came first. Evidence points to these two features evolving side by side, so many think they developed around the same time ...

I think that a lot of it has to depend on the emotions involved. If you're just seeing a bunch of girls casually, and no heavy emotions are involved on either side, date as many girls as you want. But I would say that once stuff like 'love' gets involved, it's probably a bad idea. Somebody's going ...
