are we talking personal opinion or fact. Most critics rave about ELEPHANT-The White Stripes cd. There are alot of CD's that came out this year I bought and like alot.
My vote would be OUTKAST though. That is a great collection. I seriously think Hey Ya will win SONG/RECORD of the year. There are also records I bought that were only released in Canada. I really love the Chantal CD, and the Sarah M. CD. I love her song FALLING.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

Starflyer59 - Old
*Start shameless promotion*
For those of you who havnt heard starflyer.. (which im guessing is most people) they are much like radiohead in the sense that it takes awile to get a taste for them but after that its all good. However if you dont like mellow music stay away!

I second Matthew Good - Avalanche. Didn't we have a thread about this already?

I am stuck between 2 cds.
The obvious Matthew Good - Avalanche. It is simply brilliant. The jaw-dropping '21st Century living' and the moving 'While We Were Hunting Rabbits' combined with many other anthems and excellent ballads makes this an easy choice (well for canadians, me being American).
Then the astonishing Mars Volta - De Loused In The Comatorium. After the fall of At The Drive In and the splitting of the ashes, Mars Volta proves themself to have retrieved the better half of the remains, as apposed to Sparta. A mixture of epics such as 'Cicatriz ESP' and catchy, yet powerful songs like 'Eritarka' with crazy guitar working and lyrics makes this my second choice.
It is truley impossible for me to choose either as the "Album Of 2003" over the other. Both definetly have their outstanding highlights and neither have a clear downside.[/b]

Koufax - Social Life:
See, there's CDs that come around in life that completely change the kind of music you listen to, and this was one of them. I was listening to anything that sounded like Alkaline Trio and falling into the trend, then I gave this CD a try, and it blew me away. I never fell in love with synthesizers and cocaine as hard as I did with Koufax. Because of this CD, I listen to completely different music now. I'd never have given The Postal Service or Death Cab For Cutie or Starsailor a try if not for this CD, not to mention I listen to Koufax all the time, even a year after I bought the CD.

I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
Ok for me it was a throw up between 3 albums.
Avalanche - Matthew Good
What everyone says is true, this thing is a true musical masterpiece. Although i kinda missed Matt not rocking out as much.
The Quicksilver Meat Dream - I Mother Earth
This album is complete unheld back IME. They mix Prog rock, with Alt Rock, plus some art, and a healthy mix of funk. Bryans melodies and voice are dripping with emotion. The only thing that this album was missing was the fun factor that BGO had.
Strays - Janes Addiction (re-united!!!)
Janes are back and better then ever! Although the past albums wern't for everyone, Strays is more listenable then anything they have made. At the same time, none of Janes integrity is sacrificed. Check them out folks, they created the genre that many of your favorite bands are in! ps Even if you like punk check them out
Ok now that i'm done, did anyone here think "Live" was the best album of the year?

"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good
"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911
"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good
I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.
"Hold on, hold on children, your mother and father are leaving, hold on, hold on children your best freind's parents are leaving, leaving,.......*AHHH*! " - Death From Above - Black History Month
