i still wish "grocery list" was on the album, i think i'd swap it out for one of the weaker songs... hard to decide which one... probably "if this is it".

It's so interesting to me how all the fans here are all over the place on this album. For me, This is It is the song I've had stuck in my head, I love that song.

it's a good kind of "all over the place" though, because even though "if this is it" might be my least favorite at the moment (not counting "mettle"), i still really like it, as i like ALL of the songs on curve. that's why it was hard for me to decide.

with burn burn, it was a lot easier to pick the weaker songs. but in curve all of the damn songs are good, it's amazing.

funny, I actually thought some of the lyrics on here were the most honest, emotional, depressing lyrics weve seen from OLP in years (a good thing, since the last couple albums lacked real raw emotion) Songs like AFAYC kinda pull it out of the dreariness here and there, though.

I find that in AFAYC that Raine sounds a lot like Bono.

I don't see that, I love the way Raine sings in AFAYC

Missed the days where you couldn't understand Raine most of the time:

Allowance.

What the hell is with those verses? Quiet or what?

one thing that bothers me about AFAYC is that the chorus feels incomplete, like it's lacking something. maybe they didn't want it to turn into a cliche melody, and i can respect that. but i keep wanting the chorus to go further, after "don't give up, we'll always be friends yeah".

As much as I appreciated Burn Burn as a step forward for the band, this album is just a whole other level. It has a dark intensity that has been missing from their music for years, it's great to feel that back again.

Also, really loving how the end of Fire In The Henhouse flows into Heavyweight.

Could somebody kindly PM me the recording? I'm having a hard time holding out. All this positivity regarding the new album is playing with my patience!

I was just about to say that. Wasn't expecting that at all, but it has to be the best minute and a half of the album. Raine's falsetto there is quite a nod to classic OLP, as has been mentioned. And Steve's solo? DAMN.

Steve's guitar on this album reminds me a lot of OK Computer era Radiohead. Me Gusta.
Duncan really shines on here too. Tracks like Rabbits really show what a great bassist the guy is

So....so far:

Allowance: my least favorite on the record. Just never jumps out and grabs you into the record. Almost feels like an intro to FITHH. Not a bad song by any means, just not feelin' it.
Fire In The Hen House: Bad ass fucking song. bass line is great, very Radiohead type feel during the "accelerate, calculate.." parts. Like it 1000x better than Wolf.
Heavyweight: Love the fuzz guitar and Raine's old style paranoia vocals. Chorus isn't my favorite, but it's still an amazing jam.
Window Seat: something about this song at first has me really hooked on it, which is good. I hated it at first. The chorus is addictive, it's an all around very well structured, unique song.
As Fast As You Can: the most fun song OLP has ever done without crossing into mainstream radio shit territory. Very indie pop feel, the chorus is amazing.
If This Is It: not getting why there's any hate at all towards this one, might be my favorite on the album. Very nice build-up, great dynamics to the song.
Will Someday Change: straight up beautiful song. enough to make you emotional, something OLP haven't done for me since Thief or maybe Are You Sad.
Find Our Way: This song's all over the place. The last minute is fucking insane. My favorite up tempo one.
Rabbits: Probably my favorite on the album. Beautiful, chilling, eerie song. reminds me of an indie band called Lydia i like, instrument-wise.
Mettle: Great, beautiful outro to a great beautiful record. Chuvalo is a great man.

I think the best way to sum up Curve is that it's definitely laying down Our Lady Peace's mark on this next decade, adding a whole new dimension to their game, whilst at the same time retaining enough of their unique style to please every type of OLP fan. It’s often really difficult to compare OLP albums because they're worlds apart, but I'd say I'm really feeling the conceptual creativity of Spiritual Machines. Comparing Curve to something like Clumsy is just difficult, but one thing I would say is that Curve has literally no filler tracks. Through 2011 I was expecting a pretty rock based album with The Wolf & Heavyweight, but once you get over the fact it simply isn't - you realise that it would have just been too generic and limiting; Curve is full of deep meaning which is beautifully composed. In that sense, there’s a lot of Hunter’s Lullaby, which I’m definitely not complaining about! Steve's guitar work really shines, but Curve is very much a band effort. Everyone has their part, and they have said part nailed. I'm feeling a lot of comparisons, namely Radiohead & Pearl Jam. I've done a pretty in depth track by track review, but I think it's a little lengthy- not sure how/whether to post it :S
