Taylor...camera question!
What digital SLR do you recommend (under $1200)?
Right now I have a Sony Cyper-shot DSC-H10 10.1 megapixel and want to get a SLR. I love the 3" screen on my camera now but its not a requirement. I was looking yesterday and just don't know what would be the best option in my price range. I am certainly no expert but do have some knowledge with cameras and photography - so nothing too complicated.
So any help you can throw my way will be much appreciated!

Well these days a budget of $1200 will get you quite far. There a lot of excellent cameras available that fall well with in your price range. Too be honest, any camera you choose from any of the major manufacturers (Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony etc) will be a significant step up from your Cyber-Shot.
Saying that, here are a few I'd recommend.
The Canon T1i: The T1i is basically the replacement for Canon's extremely popular Rebel XTi/Xsi. The body and 18-55mm lens retail for a combined total of 999.99, making it a little more expensive than most entry level DSLR's but for good reason. The camera comes with the same image sensor as the Canon 50D, which is a nice bonus. At 15 mega pixels, the T1i produces larger images than any camera in its class. Saying that, mega pixels aren't nearly as important as many camera salesmen would have you think.
You'd think that image quality would increase with the amount of mega pixels present, but in fact, its often the opposite. Camera manufacturers will often increase the megapixel count without increasing the sensor size. Often this results in a degradation of image quality. My point is, do not let the T1i's 15 megapixel sensor be the main reason you buy it. In this case, a 12 megapixel or even 10 megapixel DSLR in the same price range will give you equally good images.
However, the T1i is capable of recording high definition as well as fairly good ISO performance, easy to understand controls, and a that nice 3 inch screen you so like. It would be a great choice.
Nikon D5000: The D5000 is probably the T1i's closest competitor and another fantastic choice. You can pick up the camera for $899 with a 18-55mm kit lens or for $1,199 with a 18-105mm lens. The differences are as follows: The d5000 seems to have better high ISO performance, a swivel lcd screen, a larger body (I don't know if that's a benefit for you). I should also note that Nikon images tend to look more film like because of the way Nikon has chosen to handle chroma noise. "Noise" can be described as those ugly colored pixels that often appear where they shouldn't. So for example, pink or purple pixels appearing in a blue sky. Nikon chooses to turn those noisy pixels monochromatic, which results in that nice, film-like look. However, the D5000's LCD is smaller than the Canon's and the resolution is smaller. The D5000 also does video, just so we are clear.
Either way, both cameras are absolutely excellent and I'm sure you'd be pleased with either one. Both also are conveniently in your price range. I'd highly recommend reading the camera reviews at "http://www.dpreview.com/" Just type in the name of each camera you are interested in and they will give you an incredibly extensive rundown of each. Just make sure you use that little drop down menu to navigate. They don't have next arrows at the bottom of each page which is a bit inconvenient.
Thanks! I knew you would have some good advice. There are a lot of options in that price range so I wanted to narrow it down a bit. Megapixels was never a huge concern either since most of my pictures only end up as large as 8x10. Thanks again - I'll check those two out for sure!

Awesome!!! Congrats Matt!! That's excellent. Knew you deserved that promotion!
Also, Saman you might have the same second flu as I had, I was all congested and stuffed up and had bad bad headaches with it. The advice that helped me get better was stop taking flu meds, use a humidifier, and just rest. I took some asprin/tylanol/whatever for the headaches though. Sleeping it out and allowing your body to cough and sneeze and letting your nose get runny is how you get rid of the germs. So it sound crappy but that helped me get better really fast.
Feel better!!!

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.
