When the cd that has a ton of stuff relating to my boyfriend on it - old aim conversations, including the one in which he asked me out, early pictures, stuff he'd written me, etc -, that was made 3 years ago because my parents were getting a new computer (I didn't have a laptop yet) won't work in my computer.

I'm praying it's just an issue of my computer sometimes not liking to recognize cd-rws. If there's something wrong with the disc itself and I lost all that...I'm really gonna freak out. A lot.

A lot of times, even if a disc is in terrible terrible condition... you can still play it on some cd-roms and save most, if not all, of the files from it.

Monkey had one with a game on it that we wanted to rescue, and the disc was seriously scratched and abused, and wouldn't work on my one cd-rom, but worked a little better on the other, and worked perfectly on the one on the downstairs computer. So just try as many roms as you can (go to friends' houses and stuff).
