Well, I have finally mustered up enough strength to type my experience down. Let me start off by saying that I go to Penn State. which, sans traffic, is 3.5 hours from Philadelphia. Since I actually had to go to class yesterday, we couldn't leave here until 1 PM. To make a long story short, by the time we arrived on Route 76, it was rush hour in the City of Brotherly Love.
We were able to get to the venue by 5:45, and actually got a decent spot in line, so I was okay despite spilling Quizno's on my shorts
. They opened the doors at more like 6:15 than 6, so booo
So we get in and get really good "seats". When Joel came out, I was really surprised. He was absolutely wonderful. I wish I knew what his songs were called, especially the first one he did. Really, really talented. It was awesome to see Steve, Jer, and Duncan jam with him
Next, Danko Jones came out. Had heard of him, but never his music. Well, to make another long story short, if he had talked for the length of his set he would have been much more entertaining. He himself was great, but he played the same song 11 times in between his mildly hysterical banter. And louder and more painful each time.
After a long break, OLP came on at about 9:15 to a raucous applause. They opened with Picture (during which the lighting was wonderful), then Starseed, Innocent, and Angels/Losing/Sleep.
Next came Wipe That Smile, which was undoubtedly the first major highlight of the show. I'm not a very political person, so I was glas when Raine's only political banter was a funny joke about blaming Bush for the loss of Y100. The boys really got into the song, and Raine led an impromptu singalong of the chorus. He started by saying "It's really easy, it's only 'This is War'" as if he wasn't expecting us to be loud because we didn't know the song. Well, we were loud. At the end, Raine absolutely SCREAMED "I'M GONNA WIPE THAT SMILE OFF YOUR FACE!" and then hit a great falsetto. Incredible performance.
Next was Where Are You, which the crowd seemed to enjoy, and then the slowed down Clumsy. Love and Trust was really energetic and Raine got into it. In this gap somewhere, Raine and the boys got some alcohol from the balcony and Raine drank his Jager, which he hates, for the crowd.
Next I was surprised when the boys busted out In Repair. It's cool to see Joel using the acoustic on this one. It sounded great. Boy was next, and Raine introduced it by saying "This is about one of those great life changing experiences" or something like that. Next was WTFBU?
and Raine climbed the balcony during this one. When he jumped down, he fell, and there was a little gasp but he just lost his hat and he was okay. They closed with a great Naveed, which is my favorite OLP song.
The encore was pretty standard, but I enjoyed seeing Raine sing the end of 4AM. World on a String was awesome, Raine was shocked that we knew the song so well. SoT was SoT, and Superman was Superman until some douchebag started a fight and Raine had to stop it.
Next comes the fun part. After the show, I was so parched that I crossed the street to Wawa and drank an entire 1.5 liter bottle of water while I waited in line to pay for it. After this, we decided to go back to the Troc to meet the guys, and they did not dissapoint. Duncan was first (he was excited about Car Crash coming back), then Raine (who kindly talked to my sister on the phone). I asked Raine about the slashes in A/L/S and he said that he had a really long title for the song, then changed some lyrics around and the slashes were some way to signify how much they changed that song, or something like that. I told him they changed it well
Next came Steve, and Steve was awesome. I asked him about how relieved he was to get out of the studio, and he said he's going to enjoy it while he can because they are going back very soon to work on some of the great songs that they cut from HIPT because they didn't fit the vibe. I asked if they were working with Bob again, and he said that they were exploring other options. I asked about Arnold Lanni and Steve said he doubted it but wouldn't rule it out. They wanna try someone new and have a new album within the next year.
Jeremy was hysterical. All that needs to be said.
Anyway, after the meetups, we got on 76-W to head back to State College at about 1 AM. We stopped at another Wawa (in Downingtown) to get coffee, and I proceded to spill said coffee all over the damn place. A strange-looking guy behind me in line made a joking comment in jest and we all laughed.
So, we get back on the highway, and at about 2 AM, still 3 hours from Penn State, our back rear tire EXPLODED. We call AAA, and they sent me on a wild goose chase to find a mile-marker. I walked so far down the road only to find there was one right behind the car. Grr. After I tell them our exact location, the guy tells me AAA does not service the turnpike and I had to call the Turnpike Authority. So I do, and they said a truck is on its way.
Well, an hour passes with no truck, and we decide to finally check for the jack which we couldn't find before. Lo and behold, there it is, and we decide to change the tire ourselves. Two state troopers pull over to help us. Then, after all is done, the truck shows up. I hear a voice say "Enjoy your coffee?" and it turns out that the tow truck driver was the strange looking fellow from the Wawa.
Anyway, at this point, I call my mom, and I said that we were gonna have to crash at my house, about an hour from where we were, but in the opposite direction from Penn State. Finally, at 4AM (how ironic) EXACTLY, we got back on the road. We reach my house at 5 AM, and we prepare to sleep as my mom prepares to wake up to go to work.
So, at about 10:45 AM, we leave my house for Penn State. Everything is going smoothly until, in the middle of 80-W, the car BREAKS DOWN. So this time, we get a quick tow truck, and my friend calls his parents and they come to give us another car to get back to school. We got back at 4 PM , 28 hours after we left, and 12 hours after we were supposed to be home.
And it was all worth it. I spent the entire night telling the guys to come back to Penn State, and I really hope they do so nothing like this happens again.
Here's some pictures of the most ridiculous night of my life.

Oh, and Joel opened Pedestrian's set with "The Abundance Of". The song he did with Steve is called "Overwhelmed". And, sadly, I don't know the titles of any of the others.

Oh, and Jacqui, I don't understand how you manage to get the best pictures with Jeremy ever.
