Kurzweil and Molly question.

Post by bd007h »

I've been wondering this for awhile, but is Molly's voice just Ray Kurzweil speaking into a voice machine? If you listen closely to her voice you can kind of hear Kurzweil talking. Anyone else notice this?

Hmm... I'm not sure if it's Kurzweil's voice altered, or if he's just speaking over (or under) the female voice.

i think it's just his voice augmented to sound like a woman's. the voices match perfectly in tone.

i would feel awkward recording that, myself.

... Me: Maybe we should kiss goodbye

Me: Just a kiss?

Me: Here's my kiss. Now remember I'm ready to do anything or be anything you want or need

Me: I'll keep that in mind

Me: That's where you'll find me

Me: Too bad I have to wait a century to meet you

Me: Or to be me

back in the day, it was rumoured to be duncan. then, i think during the spiritual machines chat, they said it was jamie. i'm not sure if they were joking or not though.

Yes, it is. All of the little bits of Kurzweil talking are quotes from the book (some of which appear in the timeline section, while other parts come directly from the book). The Ray & Molly part on the CD is actually a combination of a few conversations had between them in the book.

You see, the book is actually a non-fiction predictive look at the future of technology and, in particular, artificial intelligence. At the end of each chapter, Ray clears up some of the more complicated scientific jargon by staging conversations with Molly, a person living in the future. As the chapters progress further into the future, we see Molly living in and adapting to a drastically changing world. As such, she is able to explain to Ray (and thus to the reader) in relatable terms how the technological advances have affected every day life.

Most of the conversation on the CD takes place near the end of the book, when Kurzweil and Molly have their final goodbye.

Yeah, it's from Age of Spiritual Machines

Parts of it anyway. There is TONS of conversation that you really miss if you don't read the book. When I first heard SM, I went out and got the book and was blown away by it. I recommend you pick it up. The quotes from RK are all lines from the book (Obviously), and the conversation at the end is MUCH longer.

EDIT: Doh, double post. You beat me to it. But yeah, get the book!

Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?
