oh god, i just emailed one of my roommates to basically tell her straight up that i'm taking the bedroom she wants because i'm a legal tenant and i've chosen my room, and when she DOES eventually sign the lease she's free to any AVAILABLE room. That's fair, right? I made the email as friendly as humanly possible and i just fucking pray that she doesn't make a big stink about it.

Wow. I mean, I agree with you Alex. Its a bedroom, it has nothing to do with whether or not you've been friends, or trust or relatioships it has to do with appartments and roomates learning to live with each other. What does is matter is the other people want to pick from a hat?
She sounds like the kind of person who often gets what they want (no offence) and is trying to talk her way into that room. Hopfully it'll all work out in the end though.

She who moves in first chooses first. Period. Unless, however, you all decide to rent it at the same time, and all of the original roomates choose their rooms then and there. But, with this lease signing business, that method is out the window, so it becomes a first come first serve situation. Especially since two of the roomates (one of whom hasn't even signed the lease yet) can't agree on who gets the room.

i don't actually know what to do. if i just go and move in i'll come off as the big bad bitch and it will fuck everything up for a long time. bad way to start the year.
if i just put my tail between my legs and let them manipulate me into a draw then i'm just going to be fucking BITTER, especially if i lose. even if i win, it's going to be all that "see? was that so hard?" bullshit.

well, noe was the one who came up with the draw in the interests of keeping the peace. she doesn't care which room she ends up with, she just doesn't want a big fight about it. unfortunately by planting this stupid draw idea in mal's head it backs mal up on her bullshit position. if noe had just blocked her out this problem wouldn't even be up for discussion anymore.

and then there's eric, and he's just totally uninvolved. he's the boy so he gets the room at the other end of the apartment and whatever. i don't think he even knows this is happening.

i agree to drawing with mal for the room with the following adendums:

1. that you both know that, no matter the outcome, i am extremely upset about being coerced into this. because that is all it is, plain and simple.

2. that the draw is fair. i'll come straight out and say i don't trust either of you.

3. that if i draw the room with the semi-solid wall, my neighbour agrees to be completely ignored if she tries to complain that eric and i are up until 4 am being noisy. god knows i tried my best to avoid it coming to that, and look what i got for it. so, noisy we will be, and put up with it you will just goddamn have to.
