Did you see all offf Robbie?. He was awesome. Too bad MTV, VH1 and such didn't play him. I recorded everything broadcasted on american tv. Tonight getting highlights form VH1 Classics and CMT..

I wonder how many calls ABC got cause they let the WHO say FUCK on air. During the song *Who Are YOu*. He says "Well who the fuck are you?"..MTV bleeped the hell our of Green Day's American Idiot, so I found that funny with the WHO..

OKIES.

ive been away for 6 days but i watched a bit of the london show (about an hour of the "greatest hits of live8" or something) in a restaurant tv. i haven't seen olp yet so i still have to download/watch/read articles..

the leonard cohen cover sounds intriguing but it sucks that where are you and innocent sounded terrible. i haven't even heard where are you the single yet...

i'll have to recap what i think after i watch/hear the things... but yeah sounds like the tsunami show where the cover was more interesting than the olp.

okay i just saw olp perform live8 (via AOL). in my opinion the cover wasn't the best choice due to the unrecognizable tune/lyrics for most people, but it was decent enough. i liked it.

as for where are you, it was not as off-key/horrible as i percieved after reading the replies on this thread. it's Innocent part 2 and it isn't their best nor their worst. raine was sincere/very into it, which was good. the lyrics aren't as complicated and it doesn't include words longer than 2 syllables long for the most part, which i didn't like, it has way too many cliches.

i didn't think they screwed up the performance as offensively as some people described, but maybe that's just me. this song is meant to be an anthem like Innocent (raine must reallly love that song, with its success and all), a singalong for the masses. i don't love the song, but seeing that there are some better clips that i've heard that will be on the album, i am looking forward to it.

innocent, we all halfknew that olp were gonna play it and except for the raine's lack of ability to sing the high notes, it wasn't that terrible. we all hate innocent now (including myself) but when i think about it, i have to say Innocent is quite a good song. it just doens't measure up to the greatness of the previous songs.

i just think that people were exaggerating when they said that olp are now near completely lacking in talent... but how would i know, i'm not a professional musician and i've only watched it once. but just from my first listen of the performances, i think people were a bit overdramatic.

Just watched it the first time. Now, while Where Are You was not good at all, I think the mix made it seem three times worse. It's definitely not an easy song to sing, and if Raine ever had a flawless performance of it frankly I'd be shocked. Innocent was pretty standard, except Duncan's vocals made me cringe.

And mystery guitar guy seems like he's got some skill. Hopefully he can play keys too.

c: NOBODY has mentioned the emotion displayed in the raising of the
flag during Innocent (which might not be their best work but does deliver a
powerful message to youth in this fucked up world). Raine once again
took notice of a bad situation (ie. this performance) and boosted the
crowd to enjoyment on this day of celebration!!!! NOT A DAY FOR BASHING

Wow..great post. While I was disappointed in the performance, I completely disagree with some people who think that if OLP were really that good, they would have pulled off a great performance despite the messed up sound system. Unfortunately for us, OLP is not God. Everyone has bad performances. That doesn't make them any less talented.

I did mention how Raine was really into the performance. It's unfortunate that no one else has mentioned that. I still think Raine is one of the most charismatic performers out there. He just goes crazy on stage and that's always fun to see.

So anyone else find anything positive about OLP lately? 'Cause it seems lately (and I'm guilty as well for this) that we are finding all their faults but not giving them credit where it's due.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

This may have been mentioned before, but a possible reason for Raine singing off key is that he couldn't hear himself. I know that is often a huge issue with lead singers is that they can't hear their own voice and will often sing lounder because mentally they think if they can't hear themselves no one else can. This is also more common where at festivals and places where a lot of different musicians are performing within a short period of time, because not everyone has time to get a proper sound check.

actually after watching other performers I cna see why they choose Innocent..

I don;t know the lyrics to Bird ..., but I figure they did Where... to get a feel of it live and it is nte hnew song.. Innocent was probably done cause if you really think about it that song( to me anyway) represents having strength and being able to live your life although you might of been dealt a bad hand.. It is about able to gon on when things seem bleak..

that is how alot of people were viewing these people in Afica. How with nothing they haven't lost their diginity..

when I get a chance I am ging to watch the performance again..

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

I recently read your article "OLP ready to play Live8" and it made me quite upset...

Mike Turner is no longer a part of OLP he left OLP almost 4 years ago, and the fact that you re-hash and old picture, and paste it on a new article shows the lack of effort, and commitment on your part...I am a huge fan of OLP, and to see this, especially in a Canadian online magazine disgusts me.....If it came to Britney's breast size or how many bullet holes were in 50 Cent you'd get it right, but when a group is as Canadian as OLP you can't even get the information correct...

So ya, I got my reply back!

Hi Shawn:

The photo has been taken down -- thanks for the email.
