Listening to it again, I think Raine couldn't hear what was going on and was singing out of sink. Plus the background singers were TOO high. And the weird new guitarist didn't seem to know what he was doing either.

Okay...here's my 2 cents on OLP's performance:

The cover song..ehh..alright. Nothing to special. That was probably the best but waay too mellow for OLP.

"Where Are You" - I'm with the majority. I went from being overly excited about watching OLP's performance to just thinking that it was plain bad. Sounds like a potentially good live song (Raine seemed to be really into it) but the sound system was seriously messed up and Raine was way off key.

I was really disappointed when they started to play "Innocent" but it was a tad better than "Where Are You". I disagree with whoever said that Steve and Duncan's backup vocals were better than Raine. They were too high and I don't know if it was them or the sound system but they were also way too loud. Raine, on the other hand, had a good tone but he was singing in a completely different key. :freak:

OLP should have chosen better songs. They should have definitely played at least one old song.

Hopefully, this one performance isn't a reflection of how they will sound in upcoming shows.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

Lets just call it "ring rust" since that was there first proper performance in a while. Living in England i had to put up with a whole bunch of bad performances in Hyde park *cough* Snoop&Coldplay. SO i tuned into AOL.ca and i have to admit except for the first song the guys were poor, Raine was suprisingly out of touch and the bacup vocals on innocent made me cringe.

Like i said though ring rust, can't wait for them to come to europe again.

That was me. I just meant that they were actually in key. I agree that they sounded too high, but that was the point of the backup vocals. That's why they used a children's choir on the album.

What do you mean he didn't know what he was doing?

You're a n00b, as far as you know it's the only bandwagon. Get in check!

I don't think it's fair to blame the stunt musician for Raine and Steve messing up majorly with the vocals.

No, because being around the board for 3 years means that you know the people on the board, and know where everyone is coming from.

You have to earn respect, no matter where you are. A high post count doesn't demand respect, but it makes sense that someone with a high post count has been around long enough to earn people's respect.

It's not hating, it's called being objective. What kind of a fan are you if you like everything that olp has ever done?

And if you think this is bad, go to a Dave Matthews Band forum and see what those people have to say about their new album. This is nothing compared to that. (with good reason though, that album is just awful)

  Damn if you are new. What should I say and you posted more then me. LOL. Actually I lost the password of my original name..

as for performance. Hey SHit happens. You have good ones and bad ones.

I know you guys are tooyoung to remember, but at Live Aid in 1985. Simon Lebon of Duran hit a real bad note while singing A View To Kill.. OMG> It was horrid, but he just carried on like a tropper. Nothing will ever top that bad moment in live TV.

I have to say that MTV/VH1 and ABC totally screwed over Rome and Canada .. THey only played London and Philly performances and Greenday form Berlin.. Thank got I got to see some on AOL..

I also thought it was a bit much to parade that girl around. Yes I was touched by the fact she is alive today from the moeny raised during 1985. But when Madonna started to sing to her she looked lost and scared till her interpator came to get her..

There were some nice surprise perfomaces worth seeing again.. U2 with Sir Paul, Coldpaly and Richard Ashcroft, Stevie Wonder and Rob Thomas. I also loved how during Beautiful Dya they released white birds into the audience..

Sadly so, the Televised portion could of been better, but at least you had different media outlets to choose from..

Now let's see how the summit goes..

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

I'm listening to Bird on a Wire and I'm really starting to dig it now, same can't be said for Innocent and Where Are You.

Very very sad... the performance, not great, but the attitudes and bashing on here... very sad. "Noobs" and blah blah blah aside that I will receive for this post make no difference to me, just this one post for my return to the board and do with me what you will. I haven't posted in about 2 years but I have been checking for news every single day since then (except on days when I would just laugh at everyone's complaining and get sick of it). All that aside, the board is great, opinions are great, and as so many of you are forgetting... SO ARE OUR LADY PEACE!!!

As OLP walked out on stage I got that feeling I've gotten from all the live shows of the past... goosebumps and a smile. The mixing was terrible, Duncan sounded terrible... and unfortunately Where Are You is not a great song. BUT I see certain obvious omissions in the postings on here:

a: Steve's terrible miscue as he began playing the Cohen cover
- This is something that we should note as Raine is the glue of the band,
Steve is still relatively new in OLP standards and gets off the hook with no
bashing??? makes no sense... what has Raine ever done to you people
except open your minds to change and give 110% each and every show?

b: As I said, Duncan sounded terrible. He sounds like Kelly Kapousky
singing Blue Moon on saved by the bell!!! We've lost Mike Turner for
backups, Duncan mutilates them, and Raine gets bashed once again...
again, there is that certain lack of sense...

c: NOBODY has mentioned the emotion displayed in the raising of the
flag during Innocent (which might not be their best work but does deliver a
powerful message to youth in this fucked up world). Raine once again
took notice of a bad situation (ie. this performance) and boosted the
crowd to enjoyment on this day of celebration!!!! NOT A DAY FOR BASHING

I am as big an OLP fan as you will EVER find and that will never change. The music changes, and if you can't appreciate it, you have to re-evaluate your opinions as well as statements of how you still like this band. It is soooo sad to see such bashing after OLP play in a very un-OLP type show just to help people living in poverty. Now before you ban me, PLEASE take a moment to think about all the times you wrote on here in the Clumsy and Happiness.. days about how you were leaving for your daily "FIX OF OLP" and why you did that... because you seriously need to take a deep breath before you accuse and assume... people... GROW UP!!!

We don't ban for a differing opinion. Nowhere here has anyone critized another for being a n00b (unless they're doing something particularily n00b-ish, like starting thread upon thread about the same topic).

Actually, from what I've read (and I admit, I have skipped a couple of posts, so if you'd be so kind, you might want to provide examples of what I missed) there has been no bashing. Having a negative opinion of a band or a performance is not bashing. Saying something like "OMGZ OLP SUCKS AND ARE GAY!Q!!!!!" is more along the lines of bashing.

People are really over-reacting to negative comments. And I don't blame them, they just want to stand up for a band they love. And that's great. But defend the band, don't put up an offensive front against those with negative opinions.

Also, I didn't notice Steve's mess up on Bird on a Wire since I came in on the middle of the song. Otherwise I would have noticed and pointed it out. However, had I pointed it out, it wouldn't have been bashing. Unless someone said "OMG STEVE SUCKS BALLS AND SHOULD DIE!!!" You seem to be confusing criticism and bashing.

Everybody has been doing that and voicing their opinions, whether they be negative or positive. And in your post you tried to shame those who thought negatively about the band's performance, but that was just their opinion so there is nothing wrong with that.

i think there are a few people on here who were going to rip it. I am sure as soon as someone has it, it will be available..

try going back to AOL. I know sometimes after thingsare webcast they are still available to view again for a bit after the original airing..
