Hi.

Long time CC'er (DAENU), but I was urged to post on this site, as I and most people don't frequent Mike Turner's creation anymore.

Overall I wasn't impressed with the performace. Overall I'm not impressed with what I've heard from the new album/studio session. The only thing I like is the cover art. Which isn't saying much, cause I think Fox should of remained the OLP mascot. Right now, can't say I will buy the album, which is saying a lot. I used to buy the singles!

It's unfair for me to criticize the "Where Are You?" performance, as I don't really care for the song in general. Innocent was typical Innocent. Raine should stop bothering with his high pitched vocals, if he can't perform them live.

It's ironic, because over the last couple of years I seem to be the one building up quite a bit of aggression over the band's direction and lack of aggression. At least with Gravity, they had a couple of songs where overdrive kicked in. They also might want to stop having backup vocals on the chorus, which tend to soften up the song quite a bit. i.e. Everyone's a Junkie

Here's some food for though...It might make more sense to rename the Our Lady Peace acronym from OLP to POP.

Thanks for letting me vent

Another note...did anyone get the feeling that Raine wanted the band to stop playing towards the end and get the crowd going, like he does at the shows? I realize he did let them sing, but looked like he wanted another one of his "4am" crowd chants.

I don't know if that's what he was going for, but I doubt it would have worked. This was a Live 8 audience there to see a number of different artists. It wasn't an OLP crowd.

I know I don't post here very often (Rich here), usually a lurker mostly, but I was interested in reading what people are saying about the performance.

Personally I wasn't impressed myself either. I won’t make any excuses for them, and I think everyone has already discussed every possible reason, but I have noticed television broadcasting mixes have never been overly kind to olp.

However what bothered me was the poor choice of songs. As we all know, they have a large library of hits, yet they think a large crowd of people with very different musical tastes want to hear a new song that they have yet to play live? And an unrecognizable cover song that didn’t sound too bad vocally, but it was uninspiring, and the music seemed almost non-existent. And lastly, even though Innocent isn't a personal favorite of mine, at least it was trademark olp and it finally woke up the crowd.

With only 3 songs to perform, it’s too bad they didn't showcase what made olp an obsession to us all. Just my opinion...
Peace

Yeah, I totally agree. Innocent did manage to bring the crowd to their feet I still wish they had stuck with Superman's Dead as someone indicted they were going to originally.

I'm watching Pink Floyd right now!

All I have to say is that Pink Flyod hasn't performed live in over 30 years....... I think they sound amazing right now as I listen to money. When your good.... your just good. OLP hasn't been the same band for awhile.... Let's disreguard the Bob Rock and Mike Turner arguments and just look at them as OLP..... They just dont have the talent they use to...... Like I said Pink Floyd hasn't just written a record with each other and they also haven't just had a two year break.... Fuckin 30 years and still brilliant.

P.S. I also think that their music is a little harder to play then OLP's simpilistic songs they chose to play today.
What I felt before was wrong, I told myself all along, these familiar feelings take away the pain. And with this reason to rebel, I told you how I felt, you turned and sighed and said you couldn't feel a thing for me. And I lost another wish in all of this.

EXACTLY!

I don't care how long a band has been together. If you're good, you're good.

OLP as they exist today are not displaying themselves as a good band. Some may think it unfair to judge them on today's performance ... but if they had done really well, everyone would be praising the band for how well they did.

I just hope the guys don't get down on themselves, I don't think it was their fault, and after all the band drama, I don't think this is what they needed.

Sir Paul :duncan:

WOW what a difference 20 years can make. I went to Live Aid in Philly in 1985. The only way to see that show was by MTV.. Now you can see it on line.. It is really amazing how Internet and technology has taken us ...

I only hope all these shows get teth message out and the people who need the help get it..

No, these shows won't do shit for poverty. A week from now everyone will be back to living their everyday life and chatting about the weather and the price of tomatoes.

The only vocalist as bad as Raine that I've seen is Gordon Downie, who has never been hailed as a great singer anyways. He's known for songwriting. Though, like Raine, he can sound great and unique on an album.

Then again, Gordie didn't seem all there. At one point I think he sang that his microphone stand should shut up.

Further my previous post, flipping through the various feeds from all over the world, Canada's feed audio quality is by far the worst of the bunch. The hip mix sounds pretty poor right now too. Way to go Canada... good way to showcase our talents... probably using a commodore 64 to broadcast...
